I think that's what's new with the tracks- basically the are bastardised
verions of the old ones.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong.
It sounds like you have downloaded one of the "new" tracks, which have
been produced using the new track editor.
The editor is so new, that decent tracks have not yet been designed on
it, the tracks that have been designed are, erm, shall we say, not quite
up to the expected standard yet?
I'm sure given enough time to refine the technique, a reasonable track
will eventually be produced, but at the moment it is just being used to
experiment.
Let me know if you do eventually download a decent track, as I personally
cannot wait!!!!!
