Question about GP2 car realism

Hi. I was wondering if anybody new if the car realism option in GP2 (engine problems, etc...) depends on the abilites of the driver or is it just a random fonction? Thanks.
Hi Alain, The car realism option is set to varying degrees by the programmer of GP2. If you have Grand Prix Editor, you'll realize that the probability of breakdown can be adjusted for each car in the carset. Gratefully, in the original unpatched version of GP2, the Ferrari don't tend to break down easily. However, if you have other years' carset (like the 1989 carset I have), the probability of Ferrari breakdowns is set to the highest (you can change it, of course but where's the realism?). As for the drivers' ability, they are actually determined by the grip of each car which can be altered and adjusted using the Editor. In other words, there is no difference between drivers. Their different performance is due to the grip settings of their cars. Even between teammates, the grip settings are different. Hope that helps, Regards, Pris Seng.
Hi Alain, problems, etc...) depends on the abilites of the driver or is it just a random fonction? << Unfortunately its just random. Phillip McNelley

Philip, This is not so. The driver and car abilities are taken from performance data gathered after the 1994 season. Each driver in the game behaves as his Real-Life equivelent did during this year. The cars will also behave as they did during this game. There is an option to diasble the parallel AI programs for the drivers and have them all behave the same or an option to randomise the drivers to cars. This can be found on the driver/team selection menu within the game. Now is this typical MP or what !! The question asked was if the car realism option is affected by ones driving abilities. In other words Mark, he means HIS car, and the direct affect of HIS driving on the possible failures within the car realism settings ! Not the CC,s ! While we appreciate "FINALLY" some MP imput, R.A.S. already has some extremely clever guys lookin' after our sim related problems. What we REALLY need is SATISFACTORY MODEM SUPPORT !!! Are you really from Microprose? Because, car failures ARE random. Of course, it depends how you look at it. Maybe you mean that a Ferrari has more chance to break down than a Williams in the long term. THAT could be. (who's going to test that?) But in this case the question was whether the driving style had anything to do with failures. And this is absolutely NOT the case. Car failures are decided at the start of a GP, as experience proves without a doubt. Hit the curbs too hard and your suspension is likely to suffer damage. Engine failures are more or less random, although the particular approach to design would to an extent shape the frequency and type of failure. Ryan

In that case, could you explain to me why you always get the same failure in the same lap when you restart a race from a saved game just after the start? Surely one can not copy the driving 100% in a second attempt? This is not an attack on GP2, it is just a fact, that's all... Car failures are decided at the start of a race. So if you start a race, then save it, then continue and the car fails, you then go back and reload the game from your saved position, the car WILL FAIL IN THE SAME PLACE, because it was decided at the race start, so you effectively saved the race with the predetermined car failure in it. The only way around this is to save a race before the race start, say at the warm up stage? d:~) #:~> **Peter**

You don't need to tell ME how it works... RG Mitchley's the man you need! :-) JOH =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= When everything else failed, we can still become im- mortal by making an enormous blunder.... Then why did YOU ask the question? d:~) #:~> **Peter**

It was a *rethorical* question. I think that exists in English speaking countries, too. Not?
