Save your money - the steering interface is so sloppy that it's frustrating to play. SVGA graphics suck and the game bites big time. GPII is less expensive, looks better, has a realistic user interface and is sooooo much better that Power F1. I'm totally disappointed with the game. I even sent E-mails to Eidos re the sloppy steering characteristics and their reply said the steering was an idiosyncrisy (their spelling) that was a part of the game. I use a T2 and have tried the game using a Flightstick pro, MS Sidewinder, keyboard, Gravis pad. All the interfaces suck in this game. One more E-mail was sent to Eidos re the lack of control with the different devices used. They said the game was "winnable" and within their accepted standards. They aren't working on a patch for the game and us buyers are SOL. If not for Tomb Raider, I would simply boycott Eidos and never, ever buy a game from them again. Oh well. ..Buddha..
Actually the steering is comparable to GP2--but only after you completely reconfigure it from the default settings. I too was horrified when I unpacked the game from the box and ran it--it was close to impossible to steer!! Once set up properly (which most arcade-gamers won't be able or willing to do, btw), the control of the vehicle is honestly about 90% as good as GP2. The graphics blow GP2 out of the water, though...they are superior in quality and in terms of the amount of detail and resolution per CPU and graphics card horsepower you have. In addition, the game does not slow down as much when many other computer-controlled opponents are on screen. The computer opponents' AI is about 70% as smart as GP2, though since you can smash into other cars with relatively little damage to you or the other vehicles, this only matters in terms of the fun aspect of the racing. I would suggest that the fun aspect is about on par with GP2--it is better in some ways and worse in others. If it is being marketed as a pop it in your computer and drive away without setting anything game, then the marketeers forgot to play the game first or they forgot to instruct the programmers to design in that way because it ain't!! > > Has anyone been able to get PowerF1 demo to run in SVGA. OK, the obvious question is this: how did you set up Power F1 game to where the steering has decent response? I and countless others would like to know. I have really, really tried to like this game - "like" in this context meaning to play the game for longer than three laps. I finally had to stop playing Power F1 because the sloppy steering and unrealistic handling characteristics made me crash and burn in GPII. However, if you could enlighten us all with your setup insights and wisdom, then we all could drive this game without being totally frustrated. BTW, I'm not being sarcastic, I really would like to no. Cordially, Buddha
OK, a few clues since everyone will have to experiment a bit: Adjust the tires to hard (the difference between soft and hard is HUGE). Adjust the steering lock angle to near or at the maximum (60 degrees). Adjust the linearity to OFF (which is 1)--this makes a HUGE difference. Adjust the wing angle to reduce the downforce (to say 25 to 30 degrees front and rear). The cars steered like pigs (and in some cases at higher speeds didn't steer hardly at all) until I made these adjustments. Too much downforce on too soft a tire creates the mushy this car doesn't steer reaction. The joystick/wheel needs to have full control, not a "variability factor" thrown in by the software, so the linearity goes to none (1). Increasing the steering angle is the least of the effects, but more angle should result in much more reactive steering. If you are not a skilled "driver", you may need to back off on this factor. Works for me...that's all I can say. > > Actually the steering is comparable to GP2--but only after you completely > > reconfigure it from the default settings.
