Use of chassis-engine-tires selection in ICR2

Does someone know if the chassis, engine and tire brand choices available for one's car in ICR2 have any influence in the simulation, or if they are there just for fun? Thanks, Francois Bertin

It goes something like this; Lola - fastest at ovals. Twitchy at road courses. Reynard - best overall balance, great at road courses. Penske - a dog. Mercedes - highest top end, gas sucker at street circuits Cosworth - almost as good at top end, better mid range, better fuel economy. Honda - sluggish through the mid range, best "come back" in six gear. Ideal for ovals. Firestone - better grip, less durability. Goodyear - better durability, less grip. Mike

I believe I have this right, and correct me if I am wrong, Jim, but the chassis/engine/tire selection has no effect on the player himself, but the AI values in drivers2.txt reflect 1995 PPG-IndyCar performances (i.e. when Ford was still highly competitive, Reynard was in its rookie year...). The player can reset values in the performances file to his or her fancy, but the other drivers' numbers are 1995's archives. That's why when you download a carset (or CARTset) the values are different because now Honda is the best, Reynard is the chassis of choice, etc. However, many people are frustrated with the concept of adding things in the file, like the Swift chassis, Toyota (ugh, why?), and things to that effect. C'mon, guys, figure it out...! :-) John :|:

(Basing this on the fact that it did in Indy500:The Sim, and does in both NASCAR products, but I haven't really played our ICR games, and I haven't worked on them much at all...) ---Jim Sokoloff

It is pretty consistent for type of track which one is best, for those fast guys anyway.

Francois, The combinations do have different effects in ICR2. The majority of world records have been set with LOLA/HONDA/FIRESTONE But it also depends on your driving skills. ALso there is contreversy weather some of these records are true are not due to easily "hacking" the property files, i.e. grip, speed, etc. I dont know the incrementcies. -DG-

From hat I know tire\chasis stuff DOES make a differance. THe only reasoning is that in nascr 1\2 the fords are better on sort tracks poniacs are all round andchvies are better super speedway. Hoosiers provide better grip goodyear last longer. > > Does someone know if the chassis, engine and tire brand > > choices available for one's car in ICR2 have any influence in the > > simulation, or if they are there just for fun?
Hey, Jim, give ICR2 a try. Heaven forbid, you just might enjoy yourself! :) :) :) Before you send me UCE, I know what you're thinking... Did he complain to five or six postmasters last month? Now, you must ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do you, punk?

C'est une grande suprise pour moi. I would think that with JV so successful that there are more racing fans in Quebec. Last year's Canadian GP was huge there, n'est-ce pas? excuse the poor french, don't get to use it much out here. Go JV! Gregory Fung Vancouver, B.C., Canada
