N2: I LOVE IT! (Jim please read.)

14 posts by 12 people · 12 Mar 1997 - 15 Mar 1997

I just got to say I'm totally in love with Nascar2, man what a game... I've been racing N1 for a year or so and must say I'm saticefied with N2. It's so much more driveable. The car's much more "forgiving" and easier to control. I've just finished my first N2 race at Sears Point and when I first tried to qual. for the race the driveabelity stunned me. With N1 I got a personal best at Sears on 92.547 mph. It took me hours of practise and thinking in the garage to get there. But with N2 i just copied my N1 setup went out to qualify and BANG! 89.978 mph. Thank you Papyrus! I for one, is not that much into the graphics bit of the game, i mean what i want is a sim whilch gives you the right feeling of speed and control. I think Papy's got the control bit right, but their're a bit down on the speed-bit. So keep up the good work! However, i do have some questions; I've noticed that the stagger and front-spoiler options are gone from the setup menu. Why so ?, Is it a bug ? Will it be fixed ? Stagger on front spoiler are def. "Winston Cup things" and a very important thing on a setup. Why was (is) it dropped ? With N1 I used stagger quite much to get my setups just right. At Richmond for example I went from 121 mph laps to 126+ just by "tuning" the wheel stagger. Will it be fixed? Another thing is the multiplayer chat option; I know real racers (like myself) do not chat with each other during a race, but i do find it handy during caution laps. Was it dropped because of NRO ?? Please answer! Regards, One who's glued to a T2 playing N2!!! -- Ed_ - Norway "Early on, the cars were getting faster and faster. And with good reason: everybody was cheating." - Richard Petty
<snip> NASCAR says that teams can't adjust the air dam or stagger, therefore we can't. I for one appreciate Papyrus keeping up with the rule changes, it helps to clarify that we are playing a sim, NOT a game :) No need to fix something that is perfectly accurate. Stagger and front spoiler is now dictaded by NASCAR for each track/car in the Winston Cup Series as I understand it.

Both stagger and front air dam adjustments were removed because they are not adjustable by the teams, and instead are pre-defined based on what track is being run. Nascar dictates how much front air dam each manufacturer is allowed, and the stagger is built into the tires Goodyear brings to each race (radial tires to not change diameter with air pressure adjustments). I'm not sure why the chat option was removed (I never used it so it wasn't a concern of mine), but you can send autochat messages via the ALT-Function Keys. This sends on of 10 messages defined in the file autochat.msg located in your Nascar2 folder. -- The IWCCCARS Project: Q & A Representative http://www.theuspits.com/iwcccars/index.html-ssi http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~ebusch/

Stagger, Fuel Load and Front Air Dam cannot be changed by real Winston Cup teams, and so NASCAR 2 reflects this accurately. You can edit the autochat file to communicate with other drivers online. God Bless, Steve
The autochat does not work. Pressing ALT-Fx simply brings up the info box that corresponds to that function key.

The front spoiler height is dictated by Nascar rules on each track now. Since the advent of radial tires, all tires given to teams are of the same diameter. The only "stagger" adjustment is by using air pressure. -- > > However, i do have some questions; > > I've noticed that the stagger and front-spoiler options are gone from the > > setup menu. > > Why so ?, Is it a bug ? I believe it's CTRL-Fx not ALT-Fx. -- MyKey

Of course the "feeling" of speed in N2 won't be as great as it is in ICR2 or GP2! Stock cars are not as fast or should I say quick! We are talking about a 3500lb car here aren't we? To even try to achieve the 'feeling" of speed a lightweight Indy or F1 car can create in a 3500lb stock car would deify the laws of physics! Man, I would love to see the brakes on a stock car that could stop as fast as an F1 auto! BTW Ever done some laps at Talladega in ICR2? Now there's a "feeling" of speed! Derek James

To be pedantically correct, one cannot effectively adjust stagger on radial tires with air pressure. (It changes slightly, but only at such extreme pressures that you either lose the bead seating (from too low pressure) or run the tire unacceptably over-inflated.) In the olden days (of bias ply tires), tires could be over-inflated, and left in the sun, then the excess air removed, and stagger was in that sense adjustable. Radial tires don't have that adjustability. ---Jim Sokoloff, Papyrus
Hmmm, taste's like jummie !!! Here i was thinking i was smart ( yeah - right!)... I do apologise as i did'nt know about the "new" WC rules. If stagger and air-dams are set by NASCAR in real life, then they should be determined (sp?) by Papyrus in the game. This makes me enjoy N2 even more. Just goes to show that Papy did their homework again! Still wondering about that chat feature though. I know about the Autochat feat. whilch I enjoy very much, but I still miss the chat feature from N1. Once again, why is'nt it in the game? , is it a bug?, will it be fixed? I for one will gladly wait until the patch is released, 'cause i know that Papyrus have no interrest in delaying it more than needed. I know this becuase with the upcoming NRO i belive there is some pressure on them from both NASCAR and TEN to finish (or fix if you like) their product (N2). just my 2 cents. Once again; I'm still glued to a T2 playing N2. (Boy what A game!) -- Ed_ - Norway "Early on, the cars were getting faster and faster. And with good reason: everybody was cheating." - Richard Petty

Yep. What they are adjusting nowadays with air pressure is the "spring rate" of the tire. Overinflating the tire makes that corner stiffer. Radial tires do not "grow" in size with air pressure like the bias ply tires did. Have you tried editing the Autochat file to add your messages? Just use a text editor to put in what you want to say before going online. God Bless, Steve
