ETCC Evolution mod for F1 Challenge released

Dave Henrie announced the release of RSR's ETCC Evolution mod for F1 Challenge, with launcher additions, physics tweaks and graphics updates. Most of the thread dealt with slow downloads, BitTorrent availability for this and the SCC ALMS mod, and whether BitTorrent clients contained spyware.

An updated version of RSR's mod has been released. A few added features in the launcher, a few physics tweeks using real world data and some graphic updates...a Great mod made just that much better. note: F1RST2 now only supports the new ETCC Evo mod, not the original v1.15. http://www.racesimsrevolution.net/ dave henrie
Sure has been a tough download. Anyone know if a bittorent is availabe? (not you Eldred hehe) I can post the update (about 150 meg) on a binary group if there's a need. Alanb
As in all things, "it depends" on a number of factors. The more popular the download the faster it'll be. If you hit a peak you'll get fast download if not it will be slow. Is the SCC mod complete? Mitch In message <[email hidden]>, Dave Henrie <[email hidden]> wrote:

Thanks for the offer Alan but give me a day or two to see if I can grab it without resorting to the binary group. Mitch In message <5K5Ac.117412$Ly.96068@attbi_s01>, "Alan Bernardo" <[email hidden]> wrote:

etcc is a straight dload...no bittorent...the SCC ALMS mod uses bittorent @ www.rsdg.net dloads>f1c>SCC

Ok, thanks dave, that's what I thought too, I'm getting the SCC torrent now, I think it would be a VERY good idea to create a torrent out of the ETCC mod, maybe the people who have already downloaded it could start one ? I'm getting it right now from f1rst2 at 4.8k but since the dl has been interrupted several times so far I'm quite pessimistic about the end result, file will be corrupted I'm afraid. I don't understand why the groups releasing mods are still bothering to set servers which are hammered by us poor idiots when the thing is released, a torrent system for the first 2-3 weeks would be perfect and THEN you could host the thing for the people waking up late.... I'm sure that the SCC servers are FAR less buried in traffic right now with their torrent option...

Yes, as Mitch posted part of it depends on popularity. Another thing though is if you are behind a firewall and don't open up some ports relevant to BT your speeds won't be as good as they could be. I'm using BitTornado and when the circle is 'green' and the torrent is popular, I can get some crazy download speeds. It's not all that often, though, because I mostly download races which aren't really mainstream downloads. -- Ped Xing

That's good to hear, especially in these days and times. Spyware/Adware is something that impacts me every single day at work. I spend 30%+ of my support time trying to remove this dreadful garbage from users machines, and it never seems to end. At 2+ hours each (and even them some end up needing a re-image), it's a tremendous waste of resources that could be directed towards issues that _really_ need attention. The Bill past by the Senate this week is all fluff. Like the Can-SPAM act, it feels like it has pressure from the Direct-Marketing-Association all over it. It will do nothing. It was a waste of our tax dollars. -Larry "Raphael Barabas" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Larry wrote: > > What is the Spyware status of Bittorrent? > > Is it proven clean ? > > Open source products don't tend to contain spyware. This is what concerns me. Just becuase the core code is open source does not mean any of the available clients doesn't have Spyware/Adware included in their installers. Smaller software writers have been selling their souls to the devil and including this garbage in their installers lately. It's become far worse over the last 6 months or so. The average users computer I clean has over 300 exploits on it. It's a dreadful mess. Those of you who have not done it lately, or never at all, run CWShredder, SpyBot and Adaware (be sure to update each after installation) and see what you come up with. I bet over half of you are astonished at what you find. -Larry "JM" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

One other thing... Open a cmd window (DOS Box) and type in NETSTAT. Look at the open TCP/IP connections your system has established. If you can't identify them, it's likely a tunnel that a piece of Spyware has established and you have NO idea what kind of information is being sent from your computer. -Larry "Larry" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Rg_Ac.3955$rf7.2202@lakeread02...

Alan, That would be terrific if you wouldn't mind! I've been trying to download either the update or the full installer ever since it was first posted on Blackhole and I can't get anything better than 25K per second transfer rate which usually causes the download to time-out and fail before it finishes. Thanks Jay J PS: Folks what's all this bit torrent stuff? Anyone care to provide a simple explanation and pro's/con's of using a tool like that? Bittorrent is like a "normal" P2P network except for the fact that everybody connected to this torrent is ONLY taking care of THIS file, you you get typical DL speeds of 40-45k and no disconnection problems since there should be always AT LEAST 1 person connected on the torrent (and fedding it). So once again if someone from the group who has it could care to get a torrent client and seed the file we would all have it in no time.... Thanks
