Putting sunglare in nascar 2???

9 posts by 6 people · 09 Mar 1997 - 14 Mar 1997

Earlier I unpacked my taladega.dat file and in there was a SUNNY.PCX file. What is this. Is it something to put in for the sunglare. If there is ANY way to put sunglare into the game, then how do you do it. There has to be a way. Maybe some hackers or some REAL SMART PEOPLE could figure a way out to put the sun glare in. And who knows, maybe later they can get flipping into the game. Thanks, PLEASE EMAIL NOT POST HERE. SCREAMER CHECK MY HOMEPAGE AT [link lost in import]

No, that's the game palette for sunny days. (Contrast with NIGHT.PCX, which is for night tracks. If there is a CLOUDY.PCX that's for cloudy days [I don't actually remember if cloudy days makes the whole screen overcast looking, or if it just puts more clouds in the sky...]) Maybe they could, but I'd be real careful to remember to breath while waiting for it, rather than holding my breath... :-) ---Jim Sokoloff, Papyrus

All of the tracks contain sunny.pcx (even in N1 they did). Basically it's for the background of day races. There is also a cloudy.pcx for overcast days and a night.pcx for the tracks with (you guessed it) night races. Flipping cars would require a completely new physics model to be developed for N2. I doubt a hacker would be up to the task. -- The IWCCCARS Project: Q & A Representative http://www.theuspits.com/iwcccars/index.html-ssi http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~ebusch/

I seem to recall some screenshots floating around, and many early posts pertaining to sunglare being a new feature of the game yet I haven't seen it yet. Is it actualy there? Thanks Ron

> Maybe some hackers or some REAL SMART PEOPLE > could figure a way out to put the sun glare in. Ok well I'm not REAL smart but here's how I put sunglare in. Place your computer by the most open window in the house and wait for a REAL sunny day. After you run a 50% race with the real sun in your eyes for an hour tell me how bad you want sunglare in your computer games. I'm really not trying to be a smartass people, it just usually works out that way. Brian Kinkaid bnk29 on Hawaii http://www.maplecity.com/~bnk29/

Those were mockups (i.e. artists' conceptions) and not actually screenshots. We didn't feel there was enough time to implement it, when there were far more important things being left on the floor... ---Jim Sokoloff, Papyrus

Now all you need is a large fan between your window and the monitor that you can set to th right speed to have glare in the same part of the track each lap <G> say for example, 1/3 of the way into turn 3 at Bristol <G><G>. Thanks Jim, I can understand where that wouldn't make it being the amount of grief you folks where getting to release the thing. Ah well, mayhaps in a later patch <G>. The SUNNY.PCX file is there for the track to know that it is a day race and not a night race in N1 to use the night patch it dealed with this file so who ever made the night patch for N1 might make use one for N2. the night pacth let you race at any track at night.
