Sega's Daytona USA for Windows 95 panned

Don Wilsher enthusiastically announced the Windows 95 port of Sega's Daytona USA arcade game. Other posters called it a poor arcade title with only two laps, keyboard-only control and an unrealistic track, and criticised Wilsher for hyping it. Later posts complained that NASCAR's licensing kept the real Daytona out of Papyrus sims.

Drivers: Daytona is here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sega has released thier DAYTONA for Windows 95 ARCADE Game. Yes I know its a ARCADE and not a true simulator but I am simpleton and like easy things to do sometime. I give it 5 TIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its just like the ARCADE game that most of us have experienced. And finally they got the driving prospective right. I have been asking PAPYRUS for years to make the game look right. You know when you look out of an Indycar II its right.. NASCAR 2 is wrong, oh well thats my opinions, flames invited.. You can stop by the "AUTO-SIMULATION GATEWAY" and download the 5MB demo.. You will not be disappointed.. Don Wilshe, IVGA http://www/ivga.com/rlinks.htm PS. Could the other 18 tracks be far behind?? I hope so as we do need some competition in the stock car racing simulation market so developers will listen to our suggestions.

Sega Daytona is not a simulation...it is a game. Actually it's worse than that. One simple question I have is why is there no wheel support? -- http://www.netins.net/showcase/mpete/nascar.html Mike's Nascar World Stop on by, what can it hurt?

Man, what a waist of download time. Daytona sucks! 2 laps and keyboard control only. You could have warned us Don. I've seen a lot of complaints about Don here. But, I always thought we need someone to keep Papy on it's toes. You got me on this one Don! I think I will be a little more discriminating when reading your messages from now on.

But I do agree I wish it would give you a couple of more laps. I figure its only a matter of time before someone has a patch to give us more laps.. I have asked SEGA about another versoin that would allow it to go say 5 laps. Thanks for your input.. Havent had a flame in a long time... Don Wilshe, IVGA

Hello??? Did you catch all those colorful banners plastered all over the "Auto Simulation Gateway"? The ADVERTI***TS? Those ads make Don money and allow him to spend all the time he does practicing with NASCAR 2, and whatever else he does. So you question him as a sim racer? He probably still his (simpleton...yeah, right), but when he can post something new for people to come see (sure it's arcade, but it's DAYTONA :P ), who knows how many click-throughs he'll get. After all, he's got to make those lucrative advertising deals count for something! Too bad the latest addition to the ole Sim Gateway is a complete waste of download time, but......oh yeah, the click-throughs......

Not having a name on my post was just an oversight on my configuration of Free Agent. As FA is a new program for me and I'm still figuring it out. But as you apparently figured out I did post my e-mail address. What a mistake! I have to get my e-mail address out of my posts. There are a small group of people in RAS that post and I usually read there messages. My experience is that there will be good usable information. You are one of the people I usually read. I can usually expect good information from you, i.e., your track guides. You and I have even raced each other on the net. (race name Karter). So, when I read your post about Daytona, I figured, Hey Don gave it a thumbs up, lets give it a try. What a disappointment! I don't mind arcade games. Even the MTM demo provided multiple control configs, full races, etc. Daytona is just bare bones. An .avi, would have been as good as the Daytona demo. All you had to do was post a little information about the demo. Sure, you wouldn't have gotten a hit from me. But, you still would have my respect. Going to the lowest common denominator with this addition to your e-mail is childish, (" Are you a man or just a ***!!!"). Save the macho ***for the kids. I love to race people like you on the Kart tracks, because they race with their balls instead of their brains, and usually finish behind me. n2kartn, karter on the net ----------

I am very mad about this. We using N1 and N2 are denied a piece of auto racing by not having the Daytona Project. We don't know how to edit tracks, much less convert Sega tracks. To me, this is a total ripoff. I've seen Sega Daytona and I don't see the real Daytona...not a trioval, not a road course, not a sponsor. Just a faketrack set that fools everybody. http://members.aol.com/ROSCS

No cheers to NASCAR for licensing this cheap good-for-nothing fake. Daytona is a 2.5 mile superspeedway, restrictor plated. All you get is a short oval, flat as nothing, and no realism. I think Papyrus is the world's best autosim company. By the way, NASCAR should stop trying to sue the pits for their N1 Daytona track and start licensing it, free too. It seems to me like a better solution than a 2-lap fake. To all IRL fans out there, sorry, but CART IS WAY BETTER!! http://members.aol.com/ROSCS
