I was racing the rock about 15 minutes ago... Coming out of turn 4, I TRIED shifting down. It didn't work so, I tried agin and it didn't So I gave up. About a second later in between 4 and the s\f line. It downshifted twice and blew up my motor. Is this a bug, a feature OR possibly a problem w\ my T1? (wiring delay.) It doesn't seem to be intentional in the game, so it's a bug. (Whether it's software or hardware related is the question...) Of course, there's another bug here, and that's that you appear to be routinely shifting on an oval other than Pocono... :-) That will cost you plenty of races, probably more than the fractional advantage that you get in lap time will win for you... ---Jim Sokoloff, Papyrus

: OR possibly a problem w\ my T1? (wiring delay.) A wire delay in a 6ft cable? Hardly worth mentioning and certainly not the cause of your problem. BTW, if you race the Rock with an IndyCar, then DO downshift into 1-2, but not 3-4. It WILL save some time in Q and makes the R car turn a little better. Just make sure 5th and 6th are close enough to prevent motor venting.

I assume you mean blown motors due to missed shifts. I routinely shift at all the short tracks and one-mile ovals except for Dover, and Pocono of course. I've blown one motor due to a missed shift in online racing, and that was because my own motor was being drowned out. After that, I dropped opponents' engines to 50%, and I haven't blown a motor since. I've complained about this in the past, there really should be a performance penalty for shifting, after all, between gears, there is no engine torque going to the wheels, not to mention the wear and tear on the gearbox. But until you implement this, I'll continue to downshift on the corners. Whew...at least I'm not the only one that works the gear box. I would imagine that shifting does keep your average rpm higher which probably does stress the motor a little (alot?) more. When I run 25% races on Hawaii I don't even worry about the red line. 50% races require some restraint.

I agree with you. I believe there is a performance penalty in N2. (I know we sure talked about it for a while, and at one point it was in the product. I don't know if it stayed in there or not; if it didn't, it's because we didn't have time to teach the AI cars to have time elapse while they shifted...) --Jim Sokoloff, Papyrus
