Well what we have here is Gordon going up under Earnhardt and taking the wind out from under him. If you cry babie Earnhardt fans was watching the race then you would have known this. Gordon was on Earnhatds tail earlier and Dale got loose. So when Gordon went for the pass Earnhardt got loose and got into the wall and then Jarret got into his Earnhardts tail. You know something when Earnhardt is to blame for a wreck you Earnherdt fans say well "That is part of racin". After this event I say well "SHIT HAPPENS!!"

You must be a Gordon Fan. All you #24 fans talk about is #3 fans when Jeff messes up. Well I like Terry Labonte and I will make an honest observation and not about the fans but the two drivers. In the past Dale was known to bend a few fenders off his fellow drivers but lately when he makes an error in judgement he seems to be admitting his fault. (Rear have never heard Gordon admit fault. If you get a chance to go to a race in person get a scanner radio and listen to Jeff. He's a very emotional kid who is great when things are going good but a great big baby when things are not going so good for him. I hope one day god (he's been taking a lot about him lately) will let him grow up (and I don't mean taller) and mature so he will realize he is not perfect and admit he makes mistakes. I took a while for Dale to do the same. Let's hope. Go Terry. Scott

First of all I would like to say that I am a huge Earnhardt fan, but that will probably become obvious. I did watch the race and many replays of the various accidents and the events leading up to them. Although I dont believe Gordon is totally at fault, the fact remains that he exited turn 2 too high. If your gonna pass to the inside you can't expect to do so while maintaining an outside line. Yes Earnhardt did get some air taken off his spoiler and did have two older tires. This is why I dont believe Gordon was totally at fault. I have been following Dale's carreer for quite some time and have also seen him do some things that did not earn him many brownie points...The simple fact of the matter is that this incident can be chalked up to "..just racin". But what gets under my skin is the fact that MOST Gordon fans are new to nascar. These are the fans that for some reason think gordon is the best driver nascar has ever seen. This is something that remains to be seen. I dont think 19 wins and one cup puts him in this category. Dont get me wrong Gordon will undoubtedly continue to be successful. And to those green, uneducated(nascar wise) fans who think Gordon is the next best thing to sliced bread. Here's alittle history for ya..Earnhardt won a race his rookie season..Gordon did not. Earnhardt won a cup the year following his rookie season..Gordon did not. Yes you all can say "ya but Gordon won a daytona 500..Earnhardt didnt" This is true and as disappointing as this is to his team and fans....there isnt a driver out there who would take a daytona 500 victory vs a cup. One more thing..as successful as Gordon has been the last few years he still is not held in the regard as Earnhardt is by their peers. About 95% of the drivers are on record as saying Earnhardt is the best they have ever seen and say things like "that man can do things with a car i didnt think were possible" And this includes Gordon!! Please dont think I'm bashing Gordon..He's an excellent driver with good equipment and will continue to win races. He just doesnt deserve to be put in the same class as an Earnahrdt or Petty. Perhaps one day he will. All I ask is that those of you new to the sport as a fan educate yourselves before you cast your opinions.

Scott's RIGHT plus Gordy knew that if he could get Earnhardt loose he could pass. If it caused a wreck ... Oh well... God is Gordon's personal friend. All the other drivers don't have any connection with God Just Jeff ..... Ask Him!!!!! He's just a little snot who has a wife who did not marry him for his money or a chance to be in the spotlite.. Yeah right!!!!! Take away Gordon's silver spoon and she would dump him like a homeless person on the street. A Non Gordon fan

Well actually Jarret hit the brakes and Swirvin Irvan nailed Jarret and knocked him into Earnhardt Forever #24 -- JCSpeed
Have you been to races and listened to Gordon with a scanner???? If so, what was the babiest thing he said over the radio. I have suspected that he is sort of a fake when interviewed and that his ego is larger than a elephants ass. Eric > > Well what we have here is Gordon going up under Earnhardt and taking the

> Have you been to races and listened to Gordon with a scanner???? If so, > what was the babiest thing he said over the radio. I have suspected that he > is sort of a fake when interviewed and that his ego is larger than a > elephants ass. > Eric Last October's race at "The Rock": 1. Early in the race, the leaders were able to put some distance between themselves and Jeffy by running in a higher groove. After Everham and Jeffy's spotter told him that the leaders were running higher, Jeffy whined that he should have been told this earlier! 2. Following a pit stop, Gordon ends up going a lap down due to a pressure problem on one of the new tires. We listened to him chattering away begging Everham to call the other pits to get a driver to let him up on a restart so that he could get his lap back. Last May's Coca-Cola 600 at C***te: 1. Bobby Labonte was running behind Gordon for about a lap and started to pass coming out of turn 2. Jeffy's car broke loose and he nearly hit the wall. You could hear him on the radio complaining that ***y tried to take him out on purpose and wanted to file some sort of protest with NASCAR officials. Almost anytime during a race, you can hear Ray trying to keep Gordon calm... Ray is the one that keeps Gordon in the race. Then Gordon gets a few breaks and is in the right place at the right time. How many rain shortened races did he win last year?! :-) My wife used to be a BIG Gordon fan... good thing we invested in the radios!! :-) David

Please take this to rec.autos.sport.nascar. Not that I don't have a definite opinion on this subject, but this isn't the newsgroup for it. You'll have lots of opportunity to mix it up in r.a.s.n. Thanks! Kyle Stevens

<snip> Now, come on. You can't really be asking people to restrict their postings to intelligent, informed, well-thought-out ideas, can you? All of Usenet would collapse! ;-) The truth is, I completely agree with your position on Jeff Gordon and his fans. I first started watching Jeff Gordon when he was driving open wheels, and I remember thinking that this guy was one hell of a driver. I still feel that he is a good driver, but having the best equipment doesn't hurt either. Let him spend a season on Dave Marcis' radials and see if he wins the championship again. I will never forget his first season driving in Winston Cup. Everytime something didn't go his way, he would claim that the people racing in this division (the veterans) need to learn how to drive. Very immature. --Marcus

Steven, I have to say I agree with most everything you said. Dale is, hands down, the best. Maybe the best ever. I can't understand why no one has mentioned the move Gordon pulled on Elliot going into turn one. That was just plain reckless, IMHO. You don't go into a turn on the apron at 190+ mph, as we all know from NASCAR sim experience. You especially don't do this with someone else in the low groove. Granted, Elliot was trying to crowd/block him down the straight. But still...! That proved to me he was driving impatiently, with too much emotion and not enough brain. That reinforces, in my mind, his aggression in the incident with Dale. Did anyone notice how Elliot just back off and went high trying to stay away from Gordon? I think Jeff scared the hell out of him. I also agree that Dale has been known to be over agressive. But he has also taken a lot of heat for it and has calmed down considerably. I think it is time to turn some of that heat onto the fair-haired-boy (Gordon) before he gets someone killed. I hate what happened to Dale. I am a fan and I would like to see him win Daytona. But you're right Steve. "That's just one o' them deals." "That's racin'." For what it's worth. Hmm... what the heck does this have to do with racing or Gordon's driving abiltiy? You've got too much time on your hands! Shawn Wise "A Gordon Fan"

I have to say I Hate! Earnhart! But I have been going to the Winston Cup races for a long time even before it was called Winston Cup cars and I know and everyone else that really knows racing knows that Earnhart is the best and I mean BEST! at this game. why do you think so meany people don't like him? one is because its a one man show most of the time. If you are going to bet on a race you stand a better chance winning with earnhart then anyone else out there. If any of you go to these races, get yourself a scanner It makes a race a lot better. some of the cars frequencies are scrambled but just about all the best drivers you can hear. the newer scanners that go up to 512mhz are the ones to get, because some of the teams use the higher frequencies. Older and cheeper scanners don't go that high.

Sounds like this cat dosent have very much. Sounds like his wife took his money. Sounds like hes trying to uplift hiself by making absurd remarks about a Nascar champion. Sounds like the guys in Kinkos didn't notice him wander in of the street again and access the net on one of their computers! -DG- "A Nascar Fan"

When you think about it Dale Jarrett was the one that got screwed in that race! I mean involved in two accidents in less than ten minutes! Bummer!

Doesn't this just make sense? I don't particularly get too attached to the Gordon vs. Jarrett vs. Earnheardt arguments, but it seems perfectly logical that if I was driving a Top-5 car, and had a temporary setback that put me a lap down, I'd be asking my crewcheif to cut whatever deal he needed to to put me back on the lead lap. (I certainly wouldn't just sit back and say, "No Ray, please doesn't ask anyone for a favor for little old us; we'll just take our lumps lying down, roll over, play dead, and try better next week...") Gordon is obviously talented, and obviously competitive. It's hard for me to think of more to ask from a driver. ---Jim Sokoloff, myself.

Oh please! Give us a break, Dale, Jeff or any of them are out for one thing! To win! If any of you were a team owner, you would want the best driver you could get! Millions of dollars are invested, and the best drivers are searched out. Those that are not any good move to new teams, or retire, or try to set out on their own. This sport is about money, and the fame at the checkerd flag. Dale may be the "Best" but he is on a bad recovery trail. the Daytona wreck could have jard some memory of the 1996 season. Their are many drivers like Mark Martin, Ernie Irvan, Terry Labonte, Dale Jarrett and if you truly are a NASCAR fan, any one remember the name Allison? (Way before "The Best" Dale Earnhardt, or Jeff Gordon) <Snip> This is what makes a champion a champion. The risk is to wreck. Elliot knew he couldent hold back Gordon, but he had to prove his point! So now who is the wreckless? Gordon for makeing a move? Or Elliot diving way below the line! Risking to hold back a more agressive driver.. But still...! That proved to me he was driving <Snip> Well, thats why YOU drive sims, and he drives cars for a living. NOTE: If you are refering to the Daytona 1997 incident, Gordon never touched Earnhardt, (HE even admitted this on an interview) This happend when Irvan, "Tagged" Dale after he got away from the wall. (Cameras show Dale clearly behind Gordon) and Jarrett "Tagged" Irvan to push Irvan "Under if you will" Dales (Now inverted) car and Jarrett was even "Tagged" by Terry Labonte. A chain reaction incident. Gee kinda like Richard Petty? "Lead, Follow, or get out of the way" Hummm I wonder. Dale was "recalibrated" in the wreck of 1996, if Jeff continues his agression to these levels, he to will suffer the consiquences. But he is YOUNG, with alot of fire. But so have all the other Nascar drivers who have been ledgends. Uh ok. He just doesnt deserve to be put in > the same class as an Earnahrdt or Petty. Perhaps one day he will. Gee thanks for that note, Are you refering "Class" to the old people class? " Dale finnaly gets some competition and "they don't like it" Well;- " Thats Racing" Steel "May the best man win"
Robert 24 Feb 1997#357279
Which Daytona were you watching? #24 and #3 drift high, #3 hits the wall, bounces off the wall into the side of #24. #3 slows to try to keep from spinning out, and #88 wacks him in the left rear corner, causing him to spin then roll, and then #28 drove under him, losing his hood in the process. No matter of who you think is at fault, at least you could " who hit who " right.
flower 27 Feb 1997#357652
I haven't been on this Newsgroup for awhile, but my opinion on this issue is simply this: Gordon, the golden boy or whatever his name is, didn't give Earnhardt enough room to avoid hitting the wall. Earnhardt could have easily took Gordon out in the incident. Even after the race he mentioned this, but he didn't. When you know you gonna make somebody loose, you should give him room. This isn't Rockingham or Atlanta. Jeff should of stayed low coming out of the corner. There is no way he could have shot passed him like he thought he could. Gordon was at fault and didn't admit it after the race. 2 inches on both sides is not enough room coming out of the corner.
