Why doesn't anyone talk about F1 on Psygnosis? I've played GP2 and the playability is just inferior! I can appreciate all the options GP2 but Psygnosis F1 has just better playability. It's more realistic handling. It's just a better race. I get a total rush playing this game. I haven't quite yet playing GP2. With the Mad CATZ steering wheel this game is the absoute best game I've ever played. Have any of you GP2 gurus even tried it? Maybe you shouldn't. You may not want to play GP2 again! Sincerely, Bryan Petray

sorry but it isn't really a sim. Also, it has a large number of bugs that IMO ruin the game. I posted a bug list here a wile ago and I'd rather not repost it.
Hi Bryan: Most of us prefer PC based sims. I was under the impression that this is a console product, with a PC version available "any day now". Is it available for the PC yet? Everybody who loves F1 is upset that MicroProse has abandoned the great, but flawed, GP2. I think we're all waiting for this, and Starting Grid. Larry

From what I hear (secret sources<g>) Formula 1 will most likely fall into the "sim" catagory - and be quite a success...While SG may not last more than 30-min on a purist's hardrive. I guess we'll have to wait and see for ourselves. Best Regards, Marc Marc J. Nelson Sim Racing News - USA http://members.aol.com/simracing
>sorry but it isn't really a sim. Neither is GP2, then. There has been no shortage of comments saying the same thing about GP2. Comparing bug lists isn't a particularly valid way to rate the two sims. Randy
maybe when it will be released for the pc we might talk about it...

> >sorry but it isn't really a sim. > Neither is GP2, then. I'd like to know your experience with F1. I have played both and while GP2 has a small number of bugs that displease those who are really into sim'ing the real thing, F1 has many bugs that are obvious to anyone. once again, I am skeptical of your experience with F1. IMO the small number of small bugs in GP2 dosen't compare to the many faults with F1. If you think GP2 is a beta than F1 is a 1/10 finished beta, or at least the playstation version is (the only one released to date). That's why I didn't post it.
>> Why doesn't anyone talk about F1 on Psygnosis? I've played GP2 and the...... Is the PC one out?Is it the same one where in the playstation, you go into a concret wall at 300kph and get no damage what-so-ever? If it is,Im going to wait for starting grid:) Happy racing folks Julian

Big snip The original posts' message only stated that he was having a lot of fun with Formula One. He didn't say it was a thorough, detailed simulation of Grand Prix racing. I'm not attacking anyone or saying which game is best. I enjoy a good sim (WC1, Nascar) as much as the next guy but I have to say that Psygnosis' game is a great 'racing' game. Its very fast with nicely done tracks. I admit that the game has its flaws. The depth certainly isn't what it could be. I think the lack of that depth is what takes away its 'simulation' appeal. But to be able to just fire it up and get racing...boy thats fun. You seemed to be bothered by the fact that the vehicle suffers little or no damage when you hit a concrete wall at top speeds. I figure that if I hit a wall at 150 Km/hr I need to work on that corner of the track a bit more. I've learned that you'll never win a race doing things like that. Maybe on the easy setting but never with the difficulty setting on hard. A previous poster mentioned that he 'learned' that is was possible to get through the corners without braking by hitting the car in front of him. This is true...you COULD do this and suffer very little for it. But even a non-racer knows that this is unsportsmanlike and dangerous. I understand that the dedicated 'simmers' want the game to penalize the driver for things like this. Maybe its because I race karts (I know you're happy for me) that I've developed an instinct to do everything possible to avoid hitting my fellow competitors. Anyway, despite the games' flaws it is by far the best racing game available to the Playstation system. As far as comparing it to the PC games...no its not as detailed as WC2 and its certainly not as realistic either... but I know that when I turn on my 31" monitor, crank up the 100 watt Dolby Surround receiver, clutch the Mad Catz steering wheel that I'll be gunning for somebody or the track record. Lee
that's not the main problem I have. The biggest problems are the shortcuts and the pit stop bugs. karts are a great way to get into racing. nothing to be ashamed of there. exactly. A game shouldn't encourage you to run into the back of other cars at 200 MPH. it is, but that's not saying much
>I'd like to know your experience with F1. I have played both and while >GP2 has a small number of bugs that displease those who are really into >sim'ing the real thing, F1 has many bugs that are obvious to anyone. Well, the obvious difference that stands out is the way GP2's tracks are scrunched up, flattened out versions of the real things. Notice no banking in Brazil? (I haven't checked all the tracks yet, but it seems Crammond's engine doesn't do track banking...). Anyway, the main things that make F1 more fun for me are: a) Tracks which are the spitting images of the real thing, and more up to date to boot b) Don't have to turn off detail to get a good frame rate c) Cars are modelled after actual team performance unlike GP2 where grabbing a Ligier is as good as grabbing a Williams d) Higher speeds in the corners (part of what happens when you scrunch the hell out of the tracks). I spent a lot of time with GP2 working on setups and lap times, but overall I like the look and feel of driving the cars and tracks in F1 more. Granted, F1 sacrifices a lot of sim features such as car setup, damage realism, and some other stuff, but overall I think its a great product. As far as the bugs go..yes F1 has a few serious bugs, the biggest among them being the crappy AI (I can't believe they try to highlight the AI as a great feature in this game -- there is none), but in terms of doing lap after lap improving times, I still love F1 better. You may be right. However, if I don't find GP2 tracks particularly realistic to drive, it doesn't really matter to me as much if there are fewer bugs....it just means that the sim is flawlessly inaccurate <G> Randy

Psygnosis' website lists Formula 1 as being out for the pc in "Winter 97", but it hasn't been updated in awhile. Chips & Bits has it availble for preordering, listing the expected release date as 5/97. I just saw an ad for it on the inside cover of a magazine(don't remember which), and it will REQUIRE a 3dfx Voodoo-based accelerator. I hope they eventually come out with a Rendition patch, as I can't see buying a Voodoo card just for this game. According to Visiware's website, Starting Grid will be released "First Quarter 97". They do not mention 3D cards, but they talk alot about their 3d engine, which is supposed to be very good. For some excellent screen shots in the RAIN!! check out: http://genius.rider.edu/~salmon/index.htm This site claims Starting Grid will support the Rendition, but it is not an official Visiware site. -- "Feel Lucky, Scubaboy?" - Discovery Channel, Shark Week, 1995

(I haven't checked all the tracks yet, but it >seems Crammond's engine doesn't do track banking...). It _must_ support them to some extent, after all it is geometrically impossible to have a section like Eau Rouge or that truly horrible section at Estoril without some banking in there <g> But you are right, at some places there is nothing like enough change in elevation (e.g. Hockenheim's Ostkurve section). Flawlessly inaccurate or accurately flawed - tough choice <bg> I've only seen rolling demos of F1 and I must say that it looks superb. But I would never buy a racing game that wasn't a genuine sim as it is the sensation of driving a racing car that turns me on rather than the eye candy. Still, PC F1 sounds like it just might combine both <g> Cheers, Richard

Power F1 is already out. We might do better talking about Power F1 than F1 / Psygnosis. Has anyone tried it ??

I can appreciate all the options GP2 but >Have any of you GP2 gurus even tried it? >Maybe you shouldn't. You may not want to play GP2 again! I tried it at a local shop a couple of months ago and was absolutely disappointed. Not that I'm all gung-ho about this bug-ridden, now obsolete (read: no updates) piece of code called "GP2", but I really hated it for the fact that they let Jochen Maass do the commenting job (the guy does his best to have everyone fall asleep live-covering F1 races for RTL, a German TV station). The paddle steering sucked rocks (I assume it's all-digital). I'm no GP2-Guru (fighting hard for a 1:12 at Pacific), but the GP2-atmosphere is much better in my opinion even with all the predetermined car failures (ever tried it? If someone blows an engine reload from an earlier save, and it'll happen to the poor guy at *exactly* the same time and on-track position!!!) BTW, the Eurosport dilemma (no F1 coverage, RTL only in Germany) is the reason I'll not be watching F1 this year. Maass and Wasser are just too much for the average mind. 8-[ 8-[ 8-[ I would like to kick Bernie's ***really hard for that one.
