Need Help With NASCAR2

3 posts by 3 people · 03 Jan 1997 - 04 Jan 1997

Just got NASCAR2 for Christmas and I am having a few problems (probably driver errors): 1. I run into the walls all the time going around turns. The front of the car just seems to snow plow right into them (understere?) I am using a wheel and pedals. The wheel seems to be very, very responsive. Lowering the lock to about 8% doesn't seem to make a big improvement but using ARCADE mode does. Is it the car or me? What do I have to set up on the car to lessen understere (or is it overstere?) Perhaps I am not braking enough yet when I do brake I seem to slow down too much. 2. Where can I get one zip file of setups for all tracks? The sites I have seen so far require you to download 16 files! 3. Even when I don't crash into a wall, the other drivers out run me as if I am standing still (on all the tracks I have tried so far). Are the default setups for each track any good? 4. Do these cars have posi-traction? If so, why do I fishtail when I peel out? Joe Cacciatore

much. You're probably driving to hard and fast into the turns, expecting too much out of your current setup. I believe most of these sites still have setups for Nascar1, most of which don't work too well with Nascar2. You better off downloading individual Nascar2 setups and trying them out, tweaking them as needed. You can get some from my web page among others. Generally the default setups aren't that great, but they are useful when you are just starting out. You may want to drop the opponent's strength level so that the computer cars are running laps similar to yours until you improve. -- Emory University Graduate School of Arts & Sciences The IWCCCARS Project: Q & A Representative Nascar Setups Page: http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~ebusch/

Winston Cup cars have a "Detroit Locker" rear end. Under throttle, it acts like a locked spool, and off throttle, it acts like an open diff. (Similar to posi-traction, but more lockup.) Posi-traction is NOT the same as traction control, and no Winston Cup car has traction control. (There was some speculation, primarily to sell magazines IMO, that certain cars had a form of traction control last year. I personally don't buy it.) The key point though is even with a locked diff, if you can spin BOTH rear tires, you will be able to fishtail and/or do donuts with the car. ---Jim Sokoloff, Papyrus
