It's a hoax, like the Good Times and the PKzip 3.0 scare.
For more information, look at the following page for more information:

the net as been up.

Oh, no! I just read this post with "Deeyenda" in the subject
field...though he meant well in warning us not to read posts
containing this term in the subject field, I couldn't help it, I had
to read it! He wanted us to heed the warning!
Oh, G*d, I suddenly feel cold and clammy...feel ill...there's a rash
growing on my fingers...I think I have Deeyendaitis....

You can get a virus through e-mail attachements (i.e. *.exe files,
Word and Excel macro viruses, etc..).
>Virus warning -Do not read e-mail with "Deeyenda" in the subject. Throw it
>out. It's a virus.
No, it's a hoax, as was the "good times" virus warning last year. For
details, see the Department of Energy CIAC announcement at
http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/bulletins/h-05.shtm
Also dont read E-mail with penpal greetings in it .Big virus someone said
it would destroy your hard drive.

> You moron.
>You can get a virus through e-mail attachements (i.e. *.exe files,

In Word, you can only get viruses from Word Documents with the
extension ".doc." Text files with the extension ".txt" are okay.
M***- never accept a document file from anyone. If it's really
important, ask for a text file version of it instead.
I was just passing on the (incorrect) info I got on the Probe listserve.
Appologies to all

Correcting the statement: you can get a virus from a file received as an
attachment to an e-mail message; you *cannot* get a virus by reading an
e-mail message. When will the spreaders of this nonsense figure that part
out?

Not so, not so. If I change the extension on an infected Word file to
.txt and then open it from within Word, it's still gonna give me the
virus! If I double-click the misnamed .txt file, a PC will attempt to
open it with Notepad (which is further proof of how stupid Windoze is) and
fail.

I find it interesting that you call yourself SamDog. You seem to have
as much intellegence as a dog.

Phillip Ray Lyles:
The "net" has been around a whole lot longer than this hoax has been
around. About 20+ years longer. Nice try, tho.
madh:
You can get a virus by viewing macro infected DOCuments. Also, if Netscape
gets lame enough that they Java-enable their email, then the possibility of
an email virus will arise. (Has Netscape gone that far yet? I quit using
it, so I don't know...)
I couldn't help but add my two cents :)
If e-mail ever becomes infectable, I'm sure Symantec and McAfee will
be there to cash in on it :)

I couldn't help but add my two cents :)
raw e-mail (plain text) cannot be infected, however it is "POSSIBLE"
(this doesn't mean it will, it's just POSSIBLE) that an HTML (MIME)
type e-mail containing... well I'm not going to give anyone ideas.
Let's put it this way, if it ever becomes possible I'm sure Symantec
and McAfee will be there to cash in on it :)

This might not be _completely_ true. If you or your mail program is idiotic
enough to run attachments blindly then you could get, and would deserve to
get, a virus.

Careful, don't > become one.If you call those macro programs a "virus" I think they fall more
toward Trojans. Also only if you use a program that will run the
macros without first consulting you. On my computer I decide.
