Nascar 2: frame rate question (without rendition)

7 posts by 7 people · 07 Dec 1996 - 10 Dec 1996

I have a dell P Pro 200 / stealth 3D 2000 4MB. I was very disappointed with N2 framrates. When I put everything on "Auto" everything dissapeared! And I'm not just talking about the texture maps, the entire buildings dissapeared as well! Even with all the buildings gone and all the remaning things (cars, track, etc . . .) with no texture maps it still only runs at about 15 FPS. This is unplayable; I only settle for 30 FPS or better. Am I doing something wrong? It dosen't make sense that the game would run this poorly on a P 200. BTW, in ICR2 I get 30 FPS with only turing off the asphault, grass, and car textures. I know because I leave everything else on auto and it dosen't flicker at all.

You sure It's not a Pentium 200 (P5) CPU. Even if it were a 200 MHz P5, we're still talking about a fast machine. Have you configured UniVBE? (Use uvconfig in your N2 directory.) That's good for a very nice jump for most card/MB combinations. Performance of Papyrus (and most other, to be fair) games should be better with a P6, though not drastically. [Speaking for myself, but I tend to be somewhat informed... :-) ]

Are You sure that You have a P (PRO ??) 200. The only people I know of using P-6 chips are running NT. Maybe dual booting 95 (Which takes a big performance hit in NT). You sure It's not a Pentium 200 (P5) CPU. Performance of a lot of Apps is actually SLOWER with a P6 (P-Pro). As bad as what You say, ???? I don't think so. Something has to be wrong. There is nothing wrong with the Stealth 2000 3D card and I've seen that video card run terrific frame rates in 6x86's but my question is, Why would You buy a 200Mhz CPU and be a cheapo on the Video card. Shitcan that thing and step up to a Vram/Wram/Fancy version of Something. MGA or Mystique, Stealth 3000 3D, ATI GM Pro. Might not do a TON for the games but You'll sure like the rest of the system performance better.

Something is wrong. I'm getting much better than that on a p166! About 22 FPS with everything on and grass/asphalt to auto. (20 cars ahead) and the asphalt stays on. (at least for the few tracks I raced on so far) Anything higher than 20 cars, and I lose the asphalt drops off tho. :( Andy [link lost in import: /~ridger] Kali/Nascar/*** WARNING: MY E-MAIL ADDRESS HAS BEEN ALTERED TO PREVENT UNWANTED JUNK MAIL! I have a Pentium Pro 200 and a Diamond Stealth 64, and I get 27-30 fps in Nascar2. Are you using UniVBE?
Does anyone have a P120 with no Rendition card? I would really appreciate it if someone told me what type of frame rate they were getting with this type of system. Thanks, John -- Winners never quit, quiters never win
I've got a P133 w/ Matrox Millennium 2MB vid card. I get about 20-25 fps, with grass, clouds, horizon, and ashalt set to off. -- J. Villanueva The views expressed by me are not the views of my employer
