Hawaii: multi with AI?

8 posts by 6 people · 26 Nov 1996 - 02 Dec 1996

Does anyone know if it's possible to run races against the AI with multi other than using the "multiplayer race" option? In other words, has anyone gotten single race or championship season to work on multi? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, -Christian

There was an early version of MULTI that some of the Hawaii beta testers received that has Single Race and Championship. The official word from Papyrus is that adding these to MULTI was sinking resources that they preferred to put into NASCAR 2 and NRL. With NASCAR 2 coming soon, I don't see much call for MULTI races against AI, other than to work on your MULTI setups offline. All, I responded to Christian through e-mail but will post my reply publicly for any one interested. You can run a single race (i haven't tried a season but it should work) against the AI with multi IF you A. Connect 2 computers run the same ver of multi with a null modem cable. or B. If you were lucky enough to get the multi12b version( I don't have it) or C. Modem your buddy using multi. I have two computers connected with a null modem cable and I run single races all of the time. The second computer is 486 dx2-80 but I really don't think that makes a difference as long as it runs Nascar. Use the faster machine as the answerer and the slower as the caller( I think). You'll have to boost the AI strength percentage quite a bit. I ran Michigan at 105% and just blew the AI way...something I never do in regular Nascar. Also, the AI seem to be a bit more aggressive with each other..banging around and such. It's great practice for Hawaii and for learning to drive in traffic with the multi physics. I never race regular Nascar anymore. The only thing is I have to run to the other room during the pace lap and park the second car (unless my kids join in). So...if you've got an old 386 or 486 put nascar and multi on it, hook em together and go to Hawaii school!! It's true that N2 is just around the corner but Nascar1 will still be the vehicle for Hawaii for awhile yet and, imho, is justification for using this method. Regards, Greg Avella Gavel on Hawaii

The only way to run against the AI with Multi is to hook up with someone else. You can't run single player races or Championship season with Multi. later Sean

No. The multi executable is designed for use only when you are on Hawaii. It was not intended to be a replacement for the standard Nascar exe like the 1.21 patch was. Preseason testing is available offline so that you can develop setups to use online.

With all due respect..YES you can run a single race with multi IF you have two computers null modem linked or linked thru the phone lines or have the early multi12b beta.(I don't have the beta, just heard of it). I use the null modem link method every day. I posted a lengthy reply on this subject about three days ago and this is the second post after that fact to claim that one can't run single races. Go figure. Happy Thanksgiving. Any questions about this subject...e-mail me regards, Greg Avella Gavel on Hawaii

With even more respect, you did not read the question. NO, you cannot race the AI drivers without going through the 'multiplayer race' option. YES, you can race the AI drivers if you select the ' multiplayer race ' option, and have your computers null modemed together. I do this all the time here. And actually, if you have the computers null modemed together, that isn't exactly a 'single race'. Two computers equals a multiplayer race, whether you are actually using both computers, or not. If he only has one computer, he will not be able to do what you and I are doing. FWIW. Have a Silent Stalker day
