Three Big Name Drivers Left Out of Nascar 2

5 posts by 5 people · 20 Nov 1996 - 22 Nov 1996

I received the latest copy of InterAction magazine from Sierra today and there was a nice article about Nascar 2 in it. They listed the 16 tracks that were available as well as all of the drivers that are in the game. Omitted were #88, Dale Jarrett, #28, Ernie Irvan, and #25 Ken Schrader. It appears that the rest of the drivers are intact, but I didn't see a #37 car nor did I see John Andretti's name listed. Also left out was Kyle Petty. Maybe Adam or Ed could comment on why these 3 very popular drivers were left out of the game. They were also left out of the Playstation version of Nascar. I am sure it is some kind of licensing deal, but why now...after they were all in the original Nascar? Keith

Jarrett was not. Is there a #98 RCA Ford for Mayfield? Could you post a complete list of who is included (more for the sake of any possible part-time teams than by the full-time teams deduced from omission in this post)? Are there any cases of real cars with fictional drivers or vice versa (i.e., Leroy Brittain in the #21 Citgo Ford instead of Shepherd in NASCAR 1)? I had heard that the Playstation version includes fewer actual drivers than the PC/Mac version (i.e., omitting Marcis). Can anyone verify this? Thanks, Earl

To my knowledge, Papyrus has two full-time people who do nothing but work on licensing agreements. For every car in the game, they have to get permission for every sponsor on the car to use their logos. It's a huge job, and some drivers or sponsors may have exclusives with other game companies. Texaco/Havoline was recently involved in the Andretti title for EA, and that may be why the #28 car isn't in the box. Just watch the closing credits screen for NASCAR or Indycar 2 someday when you've got a half hour to spare. <g> All in all, I think a lot more drivers are represented in NASCAR 2 than were in NASCAR 1. And as Terry pointed out, you can count on Tony John and IWCC, Chris Frederick, and others to fill in the gaps. The great thing is that the cars will look much better this time around.
