Yeah, this is a bit of a stretch for r.a.s., but none of us would be racing simulators if we didn't dream of driving the real thing. Two Late Night drivers went to Bob Bondurant's High Performance driving class at Phoenix International Raceway last weekend. They brought back a story and photos for us to drool over. You can check it out at: http://www.sequoia-dev.com/Hawaii/Features/laptheoval.html Dave (davids) Sparks Late Night League http://www.sequoia-dev.com/Hawaii/latenite.html

A good story! Guess you'll be planning a trip across the pond soon, eh? Thanks for the kind words, credit goes to Pat and Terry for the writing (and driving). I'm planning on taking the class at Laguna Seca next year, should be great fun! Dave (davids) Sparks Late Night League http://www.sequoia-dev.com/Hawaii/latenite.html

If I only had the money, I'd be there driving as we speak :-) How much is a class like that? The Chip Barber class at Laguna Seca is $475 for a half-day which includes three half-hour driving sessions. I think Pat told me they paid $275 for the Phoenix class. I think both of them use the 1.6 liter Formula Fords. Dave (davids) Sparks Late Night League http://www.sequoia-dev.com/Hawaii/latenite.html

All this talk about Bondurant's school has forced me to plug my own experience. I can, in the highest way, recommend the Buck Baker Racing School for Winston Cup NASCAR cars. How else can you get into a WC car and drive it for 3 days!!! I attended, with another Hawaii member, the 3 day WC course at "The Rock". Unbelievable! You start off with the basics and as you progress, they group you with similarly fast/slow drivers that are there with you, so you don't get held up with slower drivers. Lots of track time. And the good news to all the ***-racers out there, yes, the hours of time at the simulator, I believe, helped! They offer one and two day courses also. They have a super truck too. Randy Baker, chief instructor, was in this weekends Atlanta race. He was in the 02 car and went out with a mechanical that put him in the wall early. Want to know more? Mail me. We'll probably be going to Atlanta next year for the 2-day advanced. I think both of them use the 1.6 liter Formula Fords. I got to take a mini Skip Barber school as part of "Media Day" preview for the Busch North season finale at Lime Rock Park a month or so ago. Got to play on an autocross course in Dodge Vipers (Your humble reporter covered himself with all kinds of glory here), then a skidpad vehicle control drill with Dakota pickups (your humble reporter failed miserably there). They wouldn't let us onto the real track though, except as passengers in vintage racing Shelby GT-350s that showed up for just that purpose. Anyway, it was enough of a teaser that as soon as I have two nickels to rub together I'm going back for the real thing. Can't remember the filename for the page I did on this but it's accessible off my "reports" page for BGNN stuff http://www.vgernet.net/aclaffie/bgnn/reports.html And of course I'll gladly take any and all Dodge Vipers anyone's willing to give me. They're almost as cool as Buicks. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Winston Cup 7 41 23 Busch South NCTS Busch North Mod Tour IRCA 93 88 43 Busch North & Modified Tour Home Pages at http://www.vgernet.net/aclaffie/ NASCAR in the Northeast - the best racing nobody's seen - Yet

Mike, How much was the 3-day course at the Rock? Dave (davids) Sparks Late Night League http://www.sequoia-dev.com/Hawaii/latenite.html

It was $1995 for the 3 day. 2 day is $1590. 1 day is $795. They do 3, 2, and 1 day at The Rock and Richmond. They do 2 and 1 day at Atlanta. They just added BRISTOL!!!!!!!! (I'm going) They give you a discount after you have attended their basic course. If you want to go fast in a WC car without a pace car, HOCK THE HOUSE and go! ;) All kidding aside, worth it at twice as much.
