GP2 ... when is a Williams not a Williams?

When it's your car and your car is not the Williams, presumably. I know, and for reasons that are actually inexplicable as far as I am concerned, that whatever car you choose to race with, it 'automagically' inherits the Williams performance. But, does it also inherit the driver characteristics ... i.e. the driver performance, grip, and grip variance. I actually like to race a car that is not equivalent to the most powerful in the field ... It's not much of a game zooming past everything in sight at the flick of a joystick ... so if I edit my car and driver performance (so that I am not in an equivalent to a guided missile), does this have any real effect ... or do I become a surrogate Williams/Hill whether I like it or not? ----------------------------------------------------------------- Tony Sanders Wellington New Zealand ... absolutely, positively nuclear-free, and absolutely OS/2 Warped. ---------------------------------------------------------------

What level of difficulty are you playing it at? I've noticed that at rookie level it is easy to pass the other cars but at levels beyond that you need to hit the garage and make modifications to wings etc to be able to keep up with them. It's certainly not easy at the harder skill levels. Tony
If you don't like "zooming past" every other car in the field, race in the Pro or Ace levels! You won't do much "zooming" past anything except, perhaps, the back markers. BruceK

I got an editor that will change the HP settings of the computer cars. I added 50 HP to each of the other cars and it really makes the game more realistic. At Germany, for instance, it takes a real effort to draft and pass the other top cars and make it stick, whereas with the standard game, it was relatively easy to draft past on the straights. All of this with the rear wing set on 1, by the way. I think that with the default settings, the player car has a horsepower advantage of 20- 40 HP. The editor, and a lot of other GP2 stuff, can be found at: http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/5164/gp2.html Regards, -Dirt-

Dunno basically. But something to try if you like racing for lower or middle order teams is get the utility GP2CCPE (can`t remember the programmer) find the difference in horsepower between Williams and the team you wish to race for and then increase all powers by that amount. The problems with this is that the top teams may end up running ridiculously low times and your team mate will be well up on your straight line speed (assuming it doesn`t just give you a Williams HP) Mark _________________________________ "..every lap I think `Oh bollocks! I've just "graduated" from rookie to amateur ... and yes, the AI cars are much tougher opponents. In my first Championship season I qualified for Brazil at 3rd place on the grid. This time around I could only make 22nd place (albeit with no setup tweaks) ... now this could get interesting. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Tony Sanders Wellington New Zealand ... absolutely, positively nuclear-free, and absolutely OS/2 Warped. ---------------------------------------------------------------
Of cousre, I`m wrong again. If you assume the power of a Williams then originally your team mate will be way down on your straight line speed (unless you drive for Williams). A global increase in HP will put him closer to level and not ahead. Mark _________________________________ "..every lap I think `Oh bollocks!
