All, Man Nascar is getting ***ing! :) I finally beat my old record. I went from 39th at Charlette to 1st place in 13 laps with AI set to 100%. How does this compare to anyone else? Just trying to get a feel of where others are at... -- Lannie Schafroth PS OK, maybe I'm bragging too....:)

Sure do, pal...everyday. Just experimenting w/Dega to see how far I can push the AI, and what changes when moving up the difficulty scale. Okay?

I don't mean to come off elitist or anything, but I remember when I used to use what you are talking about as a benchmark of my skill and it doesn't compare to the level of skill you'll find online. If you really want to see what you're worth, you need to come on Hawaii and find out. AI will teach you how to conduct yourself in traffic, but they are way too polite. You push them, they'll give. Try that online?...well, took me about 20 laps to pass a guy monday (Yes Bill...You!) We spent a great many of those 20 laps door to door, neither willing to give up the nut! The AI just don't dig that hard! (g) I oughta release that replay on home video! (g)

I agree with you. There's a simple little trick to beating the AI - just brake late going into the corner. They will usually politely move over, leaving you the inside line. You do have to be careful, because if you brake too hard, they will come back down on you. You can actually beat the AI even when the leaders are set to run faster laps than you, if you can catch them in lap traffic. As Mark said, it's nothing like racing against the real thing. That said...I must comment on the fact that at higher difficulty levels, the AI is *certainly* no pushover. One would expect that as you step up the ladder in difficulty, you would just see incremental AI speed increases. This has not been my experience. Fire up say Darlington somewhere between 105-110% and I think you'll be surprised. Nobody is being 'polite' there. While I'm awaiting NRL as much as everyone else...N1 continues to amaze me with overall AI programming. cheers...duncan.

Even though the AI will run faster they remain fairly unaggressive and very much predictable. They may appear less polite because it is harder to shove your nose down low and beat them into the corner. Sure, there are times when the AI just shuts me out, but you can spot those situations and a lap or so later that same car will move over. Terry

I don't know that racing a full field of human opponents is superior, but it sure does present a much different problem, mainly surviving the inevitable wrecks. <g> On those occasions when I do race AI, I typically race at 105-110%. I haven't seen any change in the behavior other than they run faster through the turns. In fact, just the other night, I was racing AI cars set for 106% at Martinsville as practice for an upcoming Late Night league race. I lapped the entire field half way through a 40% race after starting mid-pack by using the technique I described, i.e. catching the cars in slower traffic and braking late for the turns. And by no means, did I intend that as a slight of your ability. Just finishing a 30% or longer race against the AI, given their proclivity for severely boneheaded moves, is a sign of a skilled, patient driver. It's just that they are utterly predictable 99% of the time. Human opponents are utterly unpredictable 99% of the time. <g> Dave (davids) Sparks Late Night League http://www.sequoia-dev.com/Hawaii/latenite.html

says... ICR2) my car becomes almost uncontrolable. The steering wheel seems only loosely conected to the car. Uncommanded changes in steering routinely occur and because of this the short tracks are almost imposible to run. Is this normal? Tom King
Yes, I would love to try it. I've never dialed into Hawaii. I don't intend on doing it until it becomes a local call or have different call sights! :) If I call in now, my bill would be horrible... :) -- Lannie Schafroth

How are you at N.Wilkesboro? Seems the best I can do is a high 112. Yet they really qualify around 118 or 119 I think. have you gotten anything up there? (In other words, do I just suck here or is the track messed up somehow in reference to the real life thing)??? Also, I notice we can run 133s and such at Bristol (un-realistic)... The sim version of N. Wilkesboro is a little slower than the real track. Rockingham is also slower than the real track. The rest of the tracks in the sim are faster than the real track, sometimes a LOT faster. BTW, the best qualifying time on Hawaii at N. Wilkesboro was 113.570 as of about a week ago. I regularly run 114's with 18 gallons of fuel now. I haven't tried a sprint setup yet, so I don't know what's possible, but I'm sure that 115 - 116 MPH is within range. how about regular Nascar Racing (non-Hawaii)?? anyone know? I'd love to run Hawaii alot but the phone bill kills me. I'm not one for the snow-belt region, but it's tempting to pack up and move to Boston! hehehe Go #6 Mark Martin,#16 Ted Musgrave & #99 Jeff Burton - Jack Roush Racing!!
