A quick note to Sierra... (not papyrus 'cause let's face it. they're just
developers for Sierra)
I refuse to buy into the Pentium only frame of mind. I bought my Cyrix P200
to support an alternative to Intel. Also because it performs better. To put
code into your games to support only Intel chips is an affront to myself
and all the Cyrix users. I wasted an hour and a half of connect time and
net bandwith to download a file that I can not use. And I am a registered
buyer of ICR, Nascar, ICRII and the track packs. I do not deserve to be
treated this way.
Actually, all I am asking for is an assurance that the Pentium only code
will be removed from the final product.
Thank-you in advance.

You >see the difference? :-)The Matrox card to me is proprietary, ala' U.S. Robotics HST Modems
and BETAMAX. but it is a good card. never said Cyrix was a BAD
processor. I personally think it's great to have cyrix and amd in the
mix. however, the facts are the facts. it's not a pentium
compatible, it's a 486 compatible. that's all.
again, not trashing Cyrix, just stating a point. if someone wants to
know why the cyrix doesn't run on pentium only code, they have to
remember it's 486 compatible (according to the message I replied to,
that is). when the final code runs on 486 systems (and cyrix as well)
I'm sure it'll work really fast and do really well.
hehehehe.... I'm a Motorola fan, and personally don't care for Intel.
personally, that is.
what we're talking about here is a compatibility issue.
fact: demo is pentium only.
fact: cyrix chip is 486 compatible, not pentium
common sense observation: 486 compatibles aren't pentium compatibles
therefore they won't run pentium only programs.
that's all I was saying :)
the day when Cyrix cpu's run on the motherboards I want to put them
on, I'll get one :)
> you just pointed it out yourself... the chip is NOT compatible to

Ahhhh...thats likely to cause some discussion. :-)
You're right, it is compatible to a 486 for worst case. But consider
this...Why does a 6x86 running at 133 MHz have comparable preformance to
a pentium running at 166 MHZ ? Unless Papyrus has discovered something
that Cyrix, Intel, Microsoft, or ZD Labs all missed its completely
compatible with a pentium. In fact, it has a couple things in there that
the pentium pro now has. The only problem is the fpu. I aint got a clue
as to why its so much slower than the rest of the cpu, but "SLOW" is a
matter of perception...it seems fine to me.
yeah, and the bottom line is that most of the time, it works great!!!!
however, like you said, in worst case scenarios... well, this looks
pretty bad :> ummm, I really dunno what to tell ya' (btw, I don't
hate Cyrix, in fact, I'm GLAD they're around to kick Intel's butt!)
hehehe
