When you are in the pits during qualifying
choose tyres. There are two lines. The top lines
are your qualifying tyres and the bottom line are
your race tyres. You can choose either for
qualifying, obviously you'll choose your Q tyres
for your quick laps but you have to be able to
consever your Q and race tyres for both racing and
practicing
I don't know why this option is even in there. After all, why would
anyone want to try and qualify using race tyres. It affects my lap
times by at least 3 seconds.

All of your tires are the same. The bottom row are
simply the specific tires to be used during the race.
The improvement in lap times, I believe, comes from
a little added horsepower during qualifying. The
default settings for the AI cars have 10-15 more hp
during qualifying than during the race.

Thanks for the clarification. I should have realized of course that
qualifying tyres aren't used in F1 anymore! :)
