NFS - direct link problem

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could help me with this. I am trying to use the direct link serial connection between a Jetta notebook and a Packard Bell tower. Everything connects and synchronizes when I start the race, but after about 30 seconds the tower displays the "line noise" message and breaks the link. The tower continues on with the race, but the notebook locks up. The "Ctrl-F10" keystroke does not free up the notebook. The serial ports are both set up the same (under Win95). The chat mode works fine. Both of the serial ports are used for a mouse under Win95. The notebook is a Pentuim 120mhz and the tower is a Pentium 133mhz. I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks!! John
