There is a big error in the qualifying session.
I was making to the best lap on monza so far
I was .200 s under schummi's time. I get the signal qualifying over,
dreaming about my first pole (because you can finish that lap in
f1!!!!), my screen turned black and was thrown back to the race menu.
This is not only time. It happend a couple of times after that time
too. It takes a lot of excitment out of the game.
for example look at the qualifying session at the hungaroring in
hungary.

I may be wrong but i think you cant finish a lap in real F1 when time
has run out. I heard comments about Hill doing his best just xx
seconds before the end of the Q session in Hungary etc...
Is there a place on the web where we could have the rules for F1
races? (Qualif etc)
thanks!

I agree that is a frustrating feature of GP2 and the orginal. However,
thats all it is .... a feature. As in "functions as designed". A bug
would be a piece of code that produced an unanticipated result. This
feature was the intention of the designer(s).
I hate to be nit picky here, but I don't want people to get confused
between bugs and program design. If you want a good example of
bugs...just look at any first release of the Papyrus sims. ;-)
Before you blast me for being so anal, I too wish microprose would
release a patch that changed this "feature".
Mike
Its a design flaw.
But isn't it worse than just the final qualifying lap? Somebody correct me
if I'm wrong but in F1 when you are restricted to 12 laps in qualifying,
doesn't that mean 12 *flying* laps? In GP2 if I exit the pits, go round
once and come in again, I lose one of my laps. If I'm in the pits with 2
laps left, they are useless to me because I can't get a flying lap in.
John
Sorry, that's actually the way it works.. for one flying lap you expend
3 laps in total. Out lap, fast lap, in lap. That's why they only do 3 or
4 runs at most in a qualifying session.

Okey-dokey. ;-)
Nope. In F1, laps leaving the pits and entering the pits count as one of the
twelve laps.
Well, then, make sure you don't leave yourself in that situation anymore. :-)
In qualifying, I go either 4 laps-4 laps-4 laps (if tires don't wear out too
fast after the first flyer) or 3-3-3-3 (if tires do wear out so much that the
second flying lap cannot improve over the first one). Of course, if I try to
go for two flying laps on a set of tires and mess up during the second flying
lap, I'll dive into the pits right away to save a lap (so my qualifying session
will go 4-3-5 or something like that).

Sorry, that's not wrong, that's the way it is. That's why mostly they
come out three times (warm-up, two flying, in lap x 3 = 12) or four
times (warm-up, one flying, in lap x 4 = 12) only. And why aborting a
flying lap early that's been spoilt by your mistakes, traffic, etc by
diving into the pits and not crossing the line saves you a lap since you
don't then troll around again.
Cheers!

No, I believe in F1 the warmup lap and cool-down lap are counted as part of
your 12 laps. But what we all know is correct, that any lap started before the
time expires counts as a timed lap.
Craig Marcho
Consider yourself corrected ;) . In F1 you get 12 laps PERIOD. In essence
4 flying laps if you only do 1 per set of tires: 1 out lap, flying hot lap
and an in lap. Tough Stuff.
Jeff
No. 12 total laps, no matter what you do.
