When we race in remote link and I am in the pits and try to go to the "Car setup" we both get the message on the screen: "Waiting for Pause" or "Pause requested" and I am unable to access the Car setup. Is this a bug or has anyone a logical explanation for this? Pls reply also by email. Olaf. ------------------------------------------------- Olaf Leenders Brussels, Belgium

This is the same as GP1. The other player needs to hit pause(space bar)..or enter the garage with you. Terry ----

: When we race in remote link and I am in the pits and try to go to the : "Car setup" we both get the message on the screen: : "Waiting for Pause" or "Pause requested" and I am unable to access the : Car setup. : Is this a bug or has anyone a logical explanation for this? Well, here's a perfect example of how you CAN go into the garage when the other player is on the track. This is not a bug. The two messages mean the same thing, but are displayed as follows: The car IN THE PITS tries to go into the garage. A message is displayed as "Waiting for Pause...". This just means it can NOT go into the garage until the other player allows you to do so. This does NOT mean he must enter the garage WITH you. The car ON THE TRACK then gets the message "Pause Requested". This just means that the other driver is waiting for the garage menu. At the convenience of the driver ON THE TRACK, just press Pause (ie space bar or letter "P" depending on control setup). Once the driver on the track presses pause, the person in the pits goes into the garage and can do whatever he wants to his car. He can change any part, load new setups, save setups, whatever. While this is happening, the person on the track is whistling the Jeapordy tune and sees the message (something like) "other player in car setup". When the player is done from the setup menu and returns to his***pit, BOTH messages change to just "Pause". At this point, the driver ON THE TRACK should select unpause and continue his flyer. The reason the person on the track pauses/unpauses is because HE is the one on the flyer. He doesn't want you to pause him in the middle of a corner or in the braking zone. ANY player can pause the game at ANY time, so you need to be aware that the other guy might be in the middle of something. ;)

[longish explanation snipped] Why the need to pause the game in the first place?!? ICR2 and NASCAR allow the other player just keep on flying whilst the other's in the garage, doing whatever (s)he pleases ... -- Henrikki (Hena) Hakkanen Tel. ?(9)0-345 5538 ------- The best way to accelerate a Mac is 9.81 m/s2 -------- -------------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimer: Opinions expressed here are mine and does not necessarily reflect those of my employer!

: Why the need to pause the game in the first place?!? ICR2 and NASCAR : allow the other player just keep on flying whilst the other's in the : garage, doing whatever (s)he pleases ... Quite simple. Papyrus knows how to handle modem racing with minimul packets, but Goeff Crammond does not. The frame rate in F1GP and GP-II is pathetic over a real modem connection (not null-modem).

I'm going to upgrade somewhere down the road (holding out for the right pentium pro) but in the mean time is it worth dropping money on this product in my current position. My machine is fast for an old system. Any advice would be appreciated. JP Zorn

To get decent race-time frame rates I have to only turn on smoke in the mirrors, only texture objects, & select Low detail - even then the start of a race is just plain ridiculous! I hear that the Pen-Pro does not run GP2 well as its a DOS program & the Pro hates DOS ?? Rob
I've got a 486-66 vlb and it's only barely playable. I've got all textures off, no optional objects in mirrors, no trackside detail. At that, I can get 18 fps and processor at 120% at best! It's lots of fun to practice (decent frame rate, no obvious slowdowns), but the races are pretty useless (lots of severe slowdowns). Like you, I'm getting a Pro-200 in 2 weeks. From what I've read, the Pro *can* be slightly slower than the equivalent Pentium for graphics-intensive tasks due to a small, internal architecture change. There is, however a utility program "FASTVID"(?) than overcomes the problem and restores the highspeed video. Here's hoping...

I don't see the problem. You're going to get a PPRO, and it will *certainly* be playable on that one. You could just as well get it now then and if it isn't as playable as you expected, just leave it on the shelves until the new machine arrives! :-) BTW: I have a DX2/66 VLB Cirrus Logic Videocard, and practice is very playable (if you forget about detail, that is) Race can be made playable when you set the actual framerate to about 14 when the estimated is >20. It sounds like this should terrible, but it's quite reasonable actually... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The most civilized civilizations are as close to barba- rism as polished iron is to rust. My machine is fast for an old : system. : Any advice would be appreciated. It works OK on a DX4 100 with 16 meg in High res with no detail or low res with most detail on. It certainly works fine in Practice, and OK after first lap (ie. when it has cached lots of the game)of a race. I reackon buy it, its lots a fun! "The Wheel Weaves as The Wheel Wills" R.
