Hy, Just wondering if anyone else is not using the throttle aid(F7). I started not to use it after a week of play with it, and I must say, it is tough. Anyone have any tips on accelerating your car without sliding out? And also, I am using a virtual pilot yoke as a joystick.. Thanks.. Chavin T.

Don't dare turn on any of the help!!! This is what is great about GP2.. Puts the finesse that an F1 driver must have into this great sim. At first I was spinning out on exit of every turn at Brazil, the slow corners is where you have to know just how hard and how fast you can get on the gas ( man I love this part ) because you get no help from the downforce. You can help this by softening the rear springs and rebound dampers but it's probably just that you need to work on how to apply the throttle. Hope you are using pedals.!! The controll you have with the car in GP2 is FANTASTIC!! I love them all for what they are, Nascar Racing and ICR2, but after experiencing GP2, it's gonna be hard to get back in the ICR2 cars. However, I must admit that I am a huge F1 fan. ( Go Damon, you've been the #2 driver to long) but even if I was'nt, it would be hard to overlook the superiority of GP2. -----------. __ .----------- ----- \( )/ ----- Cie Phillips --- ' \/ ` --- Phillips MotorSports --- : : --- #01 Lite Ice Chevy --' 01 '-- #01 Lite Ice Reynard Mercedes //..\\ http://www.teleplex.net/cie/ '//||\\` ''``

In fact the way I see it : When driving with a T2 (or other good steering w= heel/pedals) there's only one way to drive : NO HELP!! There's realy only one way to prevent spinning around, and that's going eas= y on the = throttle. GP2 is the current state of the art in sims but NASCAR remains my favorite mostly because of HAWAII. In fact, whats more realistic, racin computer AI or real humans???? Until GP2 gets a network it remains a toy compared to NASCAR.

I feel this is the real way to play, i am sure if you stuck your foot straight down on a real F1 car it would spin constantly. after all gp2 is a simulator. I feel it is much more satisfying doing a fast lap with the back twiching an sliding

I had a CH Product Flight Yoke for racing once. I don't think it would be possible to control GP2 without "F7" traction help on. I drive with a very modified T1 setup and no help on at all and 0% on all the sensitivity settings, and I can barely keep wheelspin under control, some corners are worse than others, You do need a fine touch, and I don't think I could do it with my old flight yoke. For all of you out there posting these incredible lap times, I have extracted your setups from your hotlaps and tried to drive them with no help on. I have yet to find a hotlap or setup that is remotely driveable with all help off. I would love to find someone else who drives with no help to exchange setups with. Jim Boka

That would destroy the realism of this sim. I'm not posting blazing speeds, only had it one week today but I am in the high 116's at Brazil. It wont be long..:-) As for the CH stuff, I've been using it for about 2 years for Nascar, ICR2 and now I think it works even better with Gp2.. BTW, I used the CDC, (Control driven calibration). Works great... -----------. __ .----------- ----- \( )/ ----- Cie Phillips --- ' \/ ` --- Phillips MotorSports --- : : --- #01 Lite Ice Chevy --' 01 '-- #01 Lite Ice Reynard Mercedes //..\\ http://www.teleplex.net/cie/ '//||\\` ''``
That's a bit harsh Cie, in fact I would go so far as to suggest that the AI in GP2 is a _LOT_ more advanced than yer average pickup race at Talladega.... :) Cheers! Hi Jim, I also use NO help and 0% sensitivity on throttle and brake, and I find it pretty drivable with the right setup balance. It takes a LOT of right foot control, as it can piroutte pretty damn quick, but keep the braking under control at turn-in, and the throttle cool on exit and it's fine. You've found him :) Most setups you download are for steering assistance, and they can run a greater gap between front and rear wing. With no steering assistance (NSA), you must keep a closer balance between front and rear downforce, as the sim doesn't help you. SA setups are hopeless for NSA. Let me know the tracks you're running, and we can develop a setup. I'm running Jerez just now, 1:21.1xx but I think I need fundamental setup changes to get quicker. Cheers! Anyone have any tips on accelerating your car without sliding out? And >also, I am using a virtual pilot yoke as a joystick.. > Thanks.. After almost a couple of weeks without throttle aid, I am starting to get comparable lap times. I would not want to go back to aided again - the car feels so much more responsive without the computer controlling the accelerator. I use a joystick for steering and pedals for accelerator & brake. I have the accelerator set to be totally linear (ie the sensitivity control set to 0%). Basically the trick is to avoid quick changes in revs in low gears. If you ease the accelerator rather than stomping on it, you generally avoid wheelspin. From experience I know that when the accelerator is about half way down I am at the most likely wheelspin point. At half-accelerator in 1st gear, I tend to hold the pedal still, and let the revs rise before applying full throttle. I am currently trying to find a decent setup for Hungary. It seems that keeping the revs high makes the car less likely to step out on me. All I need now is a steering wheel so that I can turn this horrible steering help off... Chavin, I don't use throttle aid, too. It is much more complicated, but to use F7 is nearly the same as to break very hard without blocking wheels - unrealistic! I'm the happy owner of a T2 with pedals. If you ever have the change to drive with T2, you'll never use your joystick again. Without throttle aid you have to speed up very carefully - with T2 pedals very similar to my real car (it's a Honda Jazz, a kind of shopping car with a high speed near 120 km/h - the Ferrari seems to be a little bit faster). Yesterday I moved it from the default 50% to 100% and now it's MUCH better. Well, I managed an adequate 1:22.358 at Monza with all helps off, but Monza is an easy track. At Monaco I'm still at a crappy 1:21.8. Anyone willing to put on a Top 10 dedicated to "real drivers"? ;-) Nicola Salmoria

It's the same thing as fly-by-wire throttle which some teams introduced in 1994 instead of traction controll. Cheers Martin

You'll turn faster laps without f7 (throttle help). Just like the real thing you have to ease the power on gently. Try and keep the car right on the edge without letting go of the backend. If you continually oversteer try softening the rear end and adding a bit more real wing, later ->->->->Mark Mann->->->->http://www.netrunner.net/~markmann ************************************** !!Greg Moore in Elkhart Lake!!Jacques at SPA!! ************************************** Go Jacques Villeneuve - #6 Williams-Renault Go Greg Moore - #99 Player's/Forsythe-Reynard-Mercedes

No it's not! Fly-by-wire refers to the method of translating throttle pedal movement to the engine management system. Conventional method is by direct connection (mechanical linkage) whereas fly-by-wire refers to an electronic signal. Traction control (a completely different) system came into play in the '90's but was outlawed at the end of the '93 season. Paul
