RARS Bi-weekly Race Report & News About Upcoming Races July 28, 1996 RARS is the Robot Auto Racing Simulation, a competition for programmers and an on-going challenge for practicioners of Artificial Intelligence and real-time adaptive optimal control. It consists of a simulation of the physics of cars racing on a track, a graphic display of the race, and a separate control program (robot "driver") for each car. All RARS software and activities are free and open to the public. It runs on DOS, Windows, OS/2, UNIX, Linux, and several other platforms. Any people who want to submit for the first time please give yourselves more than a day or two (I made that mistake when I started). Submissions are to be SOURCE CODE only (unless in the unlikely event you use Borland C++ for OS/2). -------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a repeat of the announcement about todays races: July 28th, (Unlimited Division Races) No. of races 2 novice and 2 expert each division Tracks: RA and Adelaide2 (alternate: Hockenheim) Laps: 80 each race Software version: 0.64 Surface Type: 1 no practice, random starting order. This is a modified .64 where all cars must cross the finish line once before the race is over. The drivers will be uploaded to ftp.ijs.com to a file called driv0728.zip in 1-3 days. I will flip a coin that day to figure out which race is to be 'rained out'. Of course, most cars could survive Hock. I am surprised that neither Randy nor Jussi updated their cars. And so ends the 2nd Rars Racing Season, with the following winners JUSSI PAJALA with 54 points and 1st place! Jeugen Sang with 33.5 points and 2nd place! Randy Saint with 31.5 points and 3rd place! Nicole Grieber with 27 points and 4th place! Ferdinand Trautmansdorff with 26 points and 5th place! Henning Klaskala with 23 point and 6th place! Congratulations to all! The next season will start in 4 weeks with RA and Adelaide2 with an alternate of Spa-Frachochamps. As I said I might, the rules are slightly changed. You MUST either state that you wish to continue with your current car or you MUST enter another car. Either way, you must state if you wish to be placed in the expert or the novice division. If you are a novice, you can as you desire, declare yourself an expert. Once you declare your status as an expert, you cannot go back to novice. In addition, EXPERT cars will be made public after they've aged 2 races. Please read the cars header as to whether you can use the authors ideas. Good luck and see you in two weeks.
