F1GP II - how is VGA?

I'm the US and have to wait another week to get my hands on F1GP 2 :(. But in the meantime, I've seen several post stating the VGA graphics are not quite bad. Up til now, all the previews had stated that VGA looks good and SGVA looks great. So how bad is VGA? I've only got a AMD 5x86 running at 160 so a doubt I'll be able to do SVGA very well. Anyone try it on this chip at this speed? I do have a Stingray 64/V which should help some.
With a 5x86, you don't run anything in SVGA (about 8 fps, I think...). The VGA is not so good as you can think, but the SVGA is better then what we knew! I'm only able to play in VGA, 'cause I've got a P100, and if I don't want to have 15 fps, I need to use this video mode: and I take 23 fps only without some textures, like sky, track and mirrors. -- Paolo Zanetto

Hi Harmon ! I've acquired GPII last Friday in Italy (07/19/96) and I've just tested it during the weekend. I've got a P150 + 16MB RAM + ET4000 2MB equipped machine (cbench VGA = 181 - SVGA = 50) and to tell the truth I had to lower the details near the minimum to get a good frame rate in SVGA (proc. occ. near 80/100 %). This however depends on the track you're racing on ; as an example, Monaco is AWESOME (lot of textures) but you have to lower the details even more that other tracks (e.g. Suzuka). In VGA mode (320x200) I had to exclude the sky and track textures in order to "satisfy" my tastes (i.e., to get a good frame rate). However, even the VGA mode is very good so I think you should find a reasonable tradeoff between details & frame rate (but all is pretty configurable). Just my 2 cents ...
