ICR2 Patch is out!!!!!

10 posts by 8 people · 12 Jul 1996 - 20 Jul 1996

Since my newsfeed is kinda slow, I'm probably a day late and a dollar short with this one, but the ICR2 patch IS available on Hawaii!!! I'm not sure about the 'net, but it IS available on Hawaii!!!!!! -- #06 H&P Auto Reynard/Honda IICC3 Team Rebel Alliance
: But could someone enlighten me- why would it have been exclusively : released on Hawaii? I mean, if, after 8 months, the patch is ready, it : is ready, and Sierra should make it freely (internet) available. : Connecting to Hawaii costs money, and I think of it as a NASCAR site, : right? So is (was) this an attempt to wring yet a little more money : out of us? Please, someone explain if I am missing something here- : I've never been on Hawaii (out of my budget), and maybe I'm getting : something wrong here. But from my point of view it looks a bit like : they've added insult to injury. Sort of like the "send your CD with : $15 for the Win95 CD" renig on their promise. Well, I don't have any inside scoop on this, but reading between the lines.... Papyrus did us a favor by placing the patch EARLY on Hawaii. Knowing the extreme lag time Sierra has for updating their web site and ftp site with patches, I want to thank Papyrus for taking the bull by the horns and letting the cat out of the bag. I mean Sierra STILL doesn't have a paintkit patch on their internet sites!!!!! I would like to think that some far-thinking soul at Papyrus knew that the patch would make it to their loyal fans by placing it on Hawaii. They didn't even have to announce it. And thanks to a couple of kind fellow r.a.s.'ers we have the patch available via the internet: http://www.teleplex.net/cie/ http://www.teleport.com/~mcarver/autosim.htm Now, let's count the days it takes Sierra to make it available.... They missed today!! We won't count the weekend, so that's 1 so far... -- **************************** Michael E. I would guess it's because Papyrus controls the Hawaii servers and can put the ICR2 patch up immediately when they are finished with it. Sierra controls the Sierra Web/FTP site and has their own process and timeframe for releasing software which is obviously much slower than Papyrus. Dave "davids" Sparks Sequoia Motorsports

I tell you, between MP's fake dates and Sierra's "Customer comes last" attitude, race sim fans have it pretty tough.

Papyrus makes no money off of anyone connecting at Hawaii yet. So far, only the phone companies are profiting. I think we should just be glad the patch has finally been made available, regardless of where it was released. _______________________________________ Tim Wortman NASS '96 Series Director Visit the NASS '96 home page http://www.webcom.com/twortman/nasscar/ _______________________________________

I don't think so; unless there's some profit-sharing going on here, I believe AT&T/MCI/Sprint/LCI/etc. are the ones taking our LD money, not Sierra/Papy. The only possible money-grubbing motive I see is that they want more people on the BBS, but since NASCAR has already chipped in to sponsor NRL, there's no need to advertise that Hawaii receives (insert big number here) calls/day. Thanks, Cie Phillips and Mike Carver, for putting up the patch on the WWW for us LD-challenged. -- +------------------+--------------------------------------------+ | G. Okay, it's Wednesday and the patch is listed on Sierra's web site. But, wait, there's a catch... the link can not access the file... 3 days and counting. . . -- **************************** Michael E. 1. Yes. Papyrus gets a kickback from your LD carrier. 2. $5.40 per hour? How much do you spend a day on other, much less enjoyable, ***ions? This news group must be the internet record holder for whining. Give me a break. Chuck Stuart - Mesquite TX USA
