Best processor for Sims

[snip] : Firstly the Cyrix 686 chips. Due to the relatively cheap price of : these chips, I'd much rather pay out for one of these than an : equivalent Intel. I understand though that they have a slower floating : point unit than Pentiums, does this have a negative effect within DOS : games, especially the Papyrus racers? When looking at these chips, : woud it be safe to totally rely on their 'P' rating when comparing : them to Intel chips? So far Papyrus's games do not use floating point. There maybe 1 or 2 games out there that do. But, to the best of my knowledge very few do. Now as to the future? : Next is the MB. Basically Triton 1 or Triton 2? What are the : performance advantages with Triton2, worth the extra cash? I am no expert but from what I have been reading, it may be best to wait for the Triton 3, which is either just out or soon to be. [snip] I'll leave the rest up to those better qualified to answer. However, I would like to make a few observations. I too would like to upgrade my system, but feel that right now may not be the BEST time to do so. As the market and technology is in a drastic evolving and changing state. It is always changing, but at the moment I think the whole situation is a little more murky that usual. However, I currently have a stronger system than yours and can wait longer before I make the plunge. I would suggest browsing the following newsgroups for more input and insight: comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.systems comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.video comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.chips Good luck. I think many of us would appreciate a report back once you make the move. Let us know how things fare. There are too many of us still working with less than adequate hardware. -- **************************** Michael E.
