I heard some people complaining about RBR not having a good tire model...
While poking around, I was pretty darn impressed by this file and I thought
some of you would get a kick out of it.
Here's a small bit of the contents of the Michelin tyres physics file

I had a look at those last night... are you able to explain what half of
them mean, or are they just impressive because there's lots of numbers?
:)
Charlie
Mike,
I could actually say whether the criticisms about the tire model are
legitimate. But I know this much, a lot of folks aren't satisfied unless
they can complain about what might be wrong about a game.
It's getting to be so bad sometimes, that it's hard to even read most boards
any more.
Some of the myriad of complaints might be legitimate, though my suspicion is
that 90% of them are bogus.
Some of this obviously comes from the different things that different people
expect from a game.
As to those numbers you quoted, I wouldn't know where to begin to understand
what they meant.
This game looks pretty modable. Any talk of possibly creating some new
tracks or cars?

Hey Charlie..
Lets give it a shot shall we?
All the Radius and Width ones are obvious. Carcass ones I think refer to the
contruction of the tire, and how much it can deflect based on teh
stiffnesses it gives. Tread Depth and Width explain themselves..
I think the SFric ones are friction curves, plotted with 6 points. Same with
the WearFtr ones and the WetSlope...
But yeah, the amount of numbers is the impressive part :)

cars seem fairly basic... just had a look then and replaced the evo with
a weird looking xsara as a test... not sure how to get it to unlock
'extra' cars though. Everything looks highly moddable.

Having these values in the equations is one thing. Getting them right
and getting the proper proportions is another :)
I am not saying anything about RBR though, I don't have it and can't
comment. But really, getting the suspension and tire values _right_ is a
major challenge.

Well said, Mike. There is so much whining in forums these days that it's
almost unbelievable. The most annoying thing is that people so often whine
about stuff they have absolutely no understanding of.
Instead of saying, "LFS's tire model is rubbish - can't even do drifting!"
they should instead say, "Why can't I drift the cars in LFS properly?"
To which someone would probably reply with something about suspension,
steering lock etc.
Just an example....
