I downloaded the upgrade to nascar racing (nas121.exe) but don't know what to do with it. Can someone please tell me what to do. T.I.A.

After the files have extracted you need to run something to install it. I believe it is patch.exe, but it could be install.exe or setup.exe. Either way, just run it and the upgrade will be complete. -- Emory University Graduate School of Arts & Sciences Nascar Setups Page: http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~ebusch/ Hawaii Network UserName: Buschwick

Try to reverse for move forward slightly and stop in different places..you may not be in the right spot. You have to run Nascar in DOS mode, that's a fact. As for the CD rom..for speed reasons I would recommend you keep to the disk. However, if you really really need to run off the CD, then Create a icon shortcut to NASCAR. The got to advanced in the program tab, click DOS mode, then add your CD rom DOS command lines(MSCDEX) to your autoexec and config. Then your CD will work when it reboots. KenH
I just bought NASCAR racing, basically on a whim, and I am getting very frustrated with it. HOW DO I GET MY PIT CREW TO DO ANYTHING???? When I pit, I pull up next to my crew, but nothing happens. I hit F9 and see that there are scheduled things to be done, but no pit timer or anything comes up and the race continues around me. And the manual is starting to annoy me because I can't find anything in it! Also, has anyone had success trying to run it from the CD under Win95? I had to do a hard disk installation because if I start my system in DOS mode, it doesn't load my CD drive. Any ideas? JMG

I saw something at Sierra's Web site that says you have to use the brake to stop; you can't just hit reverse thrust :) . With some more practice, I've gotten to the point where I can pit fairly well although I still have to learn to slow down first (I often have to backup a couple times to get the crew active!). My real problem is that I just plain suck at driving these things! Anybody have a good car setup for a novice that will still be competitive? Or any tips? I've killed more drivers going around corners than anyone with a license ever would! JMG
: I just bought NASCAR racing, basically on a whim, and I am getting very : frustrated with it. HOW DO I GET MY PIT CREW TO DO ANYTHING???? When I : pit, I pull up next to my crew, but nothing happens. I hit F9 and see : that there are scheduled things to be done, but no pit timer or : anything comes up and the race continues around me. And the manual is : starting to annoy me because I can't find anything in it! One of these days one would think that we would put together a FAQ. But, I guess we are all too busy racing, painting, etc. Anyway, to answer your question... You need to come to a COMPLETE stop in your pit stall. This will recquire you to have the brake on to be completely stopped. You just can't coast into the pit stall. Your crew ain't going to run around and change lefts until they are sure you aren't planning on running 'em over. : Also, has anyone had success trying to run it from the CD under Win95? : I had to do a hard disk installation because if I start my system in : DOS mode, it doesn't load my CD drive. Any ideas? It sounds like your Win95 install hasn't hooked up a CD-ROM driver. Try running "Add New Hardware" from the Control Panel. If this doesn't detect your CD-ROM interface or brand, you may need to install the DOS drivers in the config.sys and autoexec.bat file. -- **************************** Michael E. Can't help with Win95 probs, (waiting for Win98 rel date 2010) :) As for pit probs, I am forever having to go back and forth to get linrd up just right. In the book I just picked up it suggests that you park nice and parrallel to the wall with about the bottom half to 2 thirds of the pit sign visible at the top of you windshield. If you don't get it in just the right spot your crew will twidle their thumbs all day long. The book also recomends that when pitting, especially under caution, to be sure and get your tail end all the way out of the travel lanes or an ai car just might come along and remove it for you. To those interested in an FAQ: Since I have yjis book and sometimes have spare time, send me your questions and if they are covered by the book or personal exp, I'll start working on an FAQ for the group. If I am unable to answer question I'll mail you to let you know. When you pit, make sure you come to a complete stop. Make your stop where the top of your windshield "touches" the pit board (square on the stick) the guy is holding. That will almost always get the crew to start. Darin Carr

certan level of profinciency. The secret to reaching this level is CONSISTENCY. This cannot be stressed enough. Again unfortunately, the only way to achieve this can get rather tedious: practice lap after practice lap. Try to follow the same line over and over and over. Start slow, if you stay consistent you'll gradually get faster, without even trying. The best motivation is to get on hawaii. Getting dogged by real people is no fun. I mean, you can always rationalize getting beat by a computer, but having a real person outrunning you by 2 secs. a lap is embarrasing. This will make you faster! On the other hand, if you can't run a lap w/o hitting something, please stay at home and practice there until you get better. My $.02 Ed Benson
I think I've finally got this situation under control. Now I just have to master the driving. I really can't handle these turns. I can do it during practice, but if I try to keep up with the big boys' speeds during a race, I inevitably slam into the outer wall. What am I doing wrong???? JMG
What is hawaii (other than a state)? Laughed at that last part! I don't want to kill anyone! JMG

you'll be glad you did.

Put in some (many) laps without using brakes. Force yourself to stay in the line. Then start speeding up gradually while making sure you stay in the lines. I use this technique all the time when I visit a track that I havent driven in a while. Of course, you will want to also put in some practice time using other lines as well. When you get comfortable and up to speed, you need to get some practice driving in traffic. Skip qualifying so you have to start at the rear of the field. Try working your way up to the front without swapping any paint with anyone. Good Luck! -------------- Michael Kirton

Of course, it would also help if the ai cars experience this little thing called tire wear.<G> Ron *********************************************** ** Keep the shiny side up & the hammer down ** *** Ron "Cougar" Riekens II *** **** Owner - Driver **** **** Medallion Motorsports/*** Photography **** *** NASS ARCA Series #96 Pontiac *** ***********************************************
