I just have to relate this experience: Setting up Nascar v. 1.21 and ICR2 v. 1.0 Last night I helped a friend set up Nascar and ICR2 on a new AT&T Pentium 100 This system has an S3 video chip and 1M DRAM on the mother board. (you can add 1M more) It also has an incredibly, insanely stupid, combo fax-modem and sound card. Of course auto-detect didn't work. After some head scratching, I called the tech support line. (Big Mistake) This moron at NCR tech support promised me that he had unsuccessfully tried to help several others set up these games. He said "this card is for windows 95 only, we don't support dos or make any promises that the card will work for dos applications. pc's now that don't officially support DOS. Cut to the chase. Here's how I made the SOB work. Restart the computer. hold down F8 choose " command prompt only" change to Nascar or ICR2 dir run setup, use manual configuration for this particular system I used: digital sound to Soundblaster 8 stereo port 220, IRQ 5, DMA 1 midi (Nascar only) port 388, IRQ 9 this works! Unfortunately there is no way to make this piece of Shi_ win-modem work with a DOS game. So, we can't race each other till he buys a new modem. TO avoid having to press f8 all the time you can either load and use the tweak GUI program from the WIN95 power toys or edit your msdos.sys file (if you like doing things the hard way), or you can create a shortcut to the nascar.exe or indycar.exe and edit a custom config.sys and autoexec.bat that are empty except for a mouse driver and maybe to load dos high.

perhaps you should have read the manuals or found out what you were buying before you bought it. Papyrus plainly states that it is not recommended to run in Windows. Who gives a shit whetther you can or not. I can run it Windows but i still use dos because I am supposed to. I know how to read. If worse comes to worse just use a boot disk. If you don't know what a boot disk is, maybe you should learn.

Excuse me for replying and wasting bandwidth, but I can't resist putting this jerk in his place. My original post clearly stated that I was helping a friend. You snipped that part. Before you go spouting off you ought to read the article. Who gives a shit? I do, you punk. If I knew who you were, I'd kick your ass. As for the boot disk, thanks for the insult. If you were not such an ass you wouldn't assume so stupidly what I do or don't know.

Hi Matt, I'm sorry if I offended you but most of what ii said was definetly taken out of context( I know it's hard to tell someone's tone of voice in writing) I appologize for acting like a jerk in your eyes. I did read the whole article and yes it is true that you said you were helping a friend. Papyrus does say however that in the manual and in this newsgroup hundreds of times that it is not a windows game. I know I could have left that alone but i couldn't resist. Yes it does sometimes work and what I meant by "who give's a shit if you can" did not mean you specifically but whether or not it can be done. No matter what though, it will not run as good in windows because windows is still running in one way or another. So the "who give's a shit" comment was not directed to you. The rest of the stuff I said was not meant to offend or insult you but i can see that after i offended you , the rest was just icing i guess. again Matt, I'm sorry i pissed you off Mike Mike, your appology is accepted. The point I want to explain is that I know this is not a windows game. I was lamenting the fact that these stupid new multipurpose cards that are apparently designed to work primarily in Windows are difficult to set up for DOS games (in DOS) or Win95's MS-DOS mode (which is really DOS 7.0). Don't confuse Win95's MS-DOS mode with dos in a window in Win95. They are two really different animals. DOS-mode is like old DOS, it's not inside Windows. DOS in a window won't run any game very well. Except maybe on a 200mhz pentium. Then it would probably perform like a 100mhz. Matt Howell
