RARS is the Robot Auto Racing Simulation, a competition for
programmers and an on-going challenge for practicioners of Artificial
Intelligence and real-time adaptive optimal control. It consists of
a simulation of the physics of cars racing on a track, a graphic
display of the race, and a separate control program (robot "driver")
for each car. All RARS software and activities are free and open to
the public. It runs on DOS, Windows, OS/2, UNIX, Linux, and several

Submissions
Please! Any people who want to submit for the first time please
give yourselves more than a day or two (I made that mistake when
I started). Submissions are to be SOURCE CODE only (unless in
the unlikely event you use Borland C++ for OS/2).

Here is a repeat of the announcement about todays races:
April 28th, (Unlimited Division Races)
No. of races 2 novice and 2 expert each division
Tracks: Fiorano2 and Adelaide2
Laps: 80 each race
Software version: 0.64
Surface Type: 1
no practice, random starting order.
This is a modified .64 where all cars must cross the finish line
once before the race is over.
The drivers will be uploaded to ftp.ijs.com to a file called
driv0428.zip in 1-3 days. These will only be the new driver
updated this session (Vector). You can use, but not peruse Vector.

May 26th, * Midget car races (all divisions together) Stef2 and S2, 30 laps
Midget car racing event! All source codes must be shorter than
450 cc's. (cubic characters). Your car name (and function
name) must be at least 2 characters long (perhaps your
initials?). Sorry *nix peoples, a CR will be counted as a CRLF.
Besides, whats one character between friends. Please submit a
seperate letter or file with comments on your submission. For
this race, all drivers will be OPEN SOURCE CODE.
June 9th, R.A. and Adelaid2 Unlimited Division Races, 80 laps
TENTATIVE RACING SCHEDULE (all races track surface 1)
June 16th, R.A. and Adelaid2 Stocker Division Races, 40 laps
Alternate: Montreal
One of the top two races will be 'rained out' and will be
replaced by Montreal (which is being run that day). I will
flip a coin that day to figure out which race is to be
'rained out'.
Note that there is only a 1 week span between these two races, this is
to put us in line with the F1 schedule. In the same manner, each
division may be rained out once each day. I have located the F1 schedule
for 96 and will stick in those races as the alternate. Here is the
schedule I have found.

Comments from Ralph
With this race we say goodbye to Fiorano and hello to Road America.
This looks like a much easier course. I know my bot didn't do well
on Fiorano.
Henning submitted a very short and supposedly very fast bot.
For some reason it caused my computer to crash. It looks as though
he is trying a new technique for midget racing (the bot was 1400 cc's).
Vector is jussi's experimental prototype.
I am looking forward to the midget races, I hope you are too.
There was a discussion of varying fuel usage in proportion to
computing time. Here are some typical times for cars to traverse
Road America 7 times alone on my P133.
