REV-LIMITER in icr2/nascar?

15 posts by 12 people · 18 Apr 1996 - 25 Apr 1996

Has anyone had trouble staying below the pit limit speed (for both entering and exiting the pits). The car max speed with full throttle will often go above the limit resulting in a black flag. Isn't the purpose of a "rev-limiter" to keep me from doing this? Any comments/help would be appreciated. 4/18/96

Well, you can't floor it...try about half throttle. It will keep you right about AT the speed limit. You ARE using automatic braking, right? If you're using manual braking, it's up to the DRIVER to maintain the limit... I am NOT paranoid. And why are you always watching me?!? Eldred Pickett

Hit Alt-B to toggle autobrake between on and off!!! You won't go over 80 (at least in ICR2 -- I think it works for NASCAR as well...)
: Has anyone had trouble staying below the pit limit speed (for both : entering and exiting the pits). The car max speed with full throttle will : often go above the limit resulting in a black flag. Isn't the purpose of a : "rev-limiter" to keep me from doing this? : Any comments/help would be appreciated. NASCAR drivers don't have a rev limiter, they don't even have a speedometer. They watch the tach. IndyCar drivers do have a special button they push (when they remember M. Andretti!), which will keep them under or at the pit speed limit. If you want to implement this in either NASCAR or ICR2, press the ALT/B this will toggle auto braking on/off. However, you must be at or under the speed limit when entering the pits. If you approach to fast the auto-braking may not kick-in in time. Also, I have had a couple of occasions where I still ended up exceeding the pit speed limit with auto-braking on. -- **************************** Michael E. No, even WITH autobrake, you'll still occasionally get black-flagged... :( I am NOT paranoid. And why are you always watching me?!? Eldred Pickett

Isn't the purpose of a > "rev-limiter" to keep me from doing this? I'm not familiar with ICR2 but in Nascar hitting Alt B will keep you below 55mph in the pits except for Taladega. However the speed does creep up to 56 mph on some tracks and the black flag will come out if you keep your foot all the way down on some tracks. On others you will never get a black flag.????

Before i enter the pits, i always do <alt-B> to turn on the autobraking (i drive with it off the rest of the time). Then i put it in 1st gear and floor it. The autobraking prevents it from going beyond 80mph. When i exit the pits, i take off the autobrake <alt-B> and resume... I just lost a race today by hitting 82 in the pits (accidentally went in to 2nd gear for an instant)... that is an incredible bummer. Here's a question- when are you technically "out of the pitts"? I've gotten away with flooring it right after passing the pace car without black-flag... is that the rule?

Isn't there a line across pit road? If not, I think it's the trackside pit wall. When you're past that, you're clear. Actually, now that I think of it, you can test it in practice. Turn autobraking on, and pay attention to where the computer slows you down... Damn, that's TOO easy<g>. I am NOT paranoid. And why are you always watching me?!? Eldred Pickett

I think what *look like* the Unocal 76 signs are the start/end markers for the pits....on the ovals, anyway. To save yourself a black flag, hit [Alt-B] before you leave the pits to keep your speed below 80.... -- Meek and obedient you follow the leader down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel.. While in the pits you'll have the auto-brake on. Just floor it after you've been serviced and when the auto-brake lets you go beyond 80mph, well... it means that youre out ant the speed limit is an height shaped rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise (infiniti :)). -------------------------------------------------------------------- - _/_/_/_/ _/_/ _/ | Montreal, Quebec, Canada - - _/ _/ _/ _/_/_/ _/ _/_/ | - - _/ _/ _/ _/ _/_/ | Jacques Villeneuve : F1 '96s Best - --------------------------------------------------------------------
a good rule of thumb is to keep it under the max. speed untill you hit the spot where the pace car sets ........then floor the heck out of the darn thing ....<G>

I think the speed limit checking ends with the end of the pit wall. Not in NR. In any case, you're generally safely out of the pits when the pit wall ends. -- Dean Robb (WB: Raz1) PC-Easy On-site computer services and consulting
