I've just come back from ECTS in london and played GP2 it seems completed but the rep from Microprose said that they wanted to make it quicker. When asked about a release date they said "June. Almost definately"

> Did you play it in SVGA or just VGA? What about the frame rate? Was it > about 25fps? > Miguel The one I played was in VGA and was ok untill lots of cars were on the screen like at the start. I saw it running in SVGA and was pretty slow untill most of the detail was turned off. Unfortunately then it looked like F1GP! Apparently that's why it's been delayed. They're trying to speed it up. The machine they said it was on was a P100. There were some pretty neat features such as, if you hit another car on your wheel rather than just bouncing off it like you did in F1GP the wheels fall off and nose cones fly off all over the place. If i think of anything else, or you have any more questions i'll post a reply if I can answer them

Maybe...but will a P166 really show a large increase in speed over a P133? Anyone out there who has tested games (not necessarily F1GP2 ;)) on both processors. I have heard that a P166 is only 1-2% faster than a P133 on average because the P166, while being a faster processor actually handles graphics SLOWER since it communicates with its PCI at 60Mhz while the P133 communicates at 66Mhz. Anyone know if this is true? Anyone...to keep this message "on topic" I'd just like to say that this is probably just another case of Geoff Crammonds perfectionistic streak shining true. Rumours are that they are trying to get F1GP2 to run under windows95. -- _____ ________ __ __ __ |DM| _______ __ |_ \\ ____ \\ \ \ \\ \ ___ | ____ \\_\ \'96 \ \\ \\ \_ |/ \\ \/\/ \\ \ \_ \ \ \ \ __ \ \ \\ \\ _\ . \\ /\/\ \\ \ \ \ \ \ .\ \ \ \ _\ - \\ \__|\// \\ \ \\ \_|\\ \_\ \__|\\ \ \ \ |______/ \_____|\/\_\\ \_\\____\\__\\_____\\_\ |_| "668 : The Neighbour of the Beast"

Sorry, but you're wrong about the frequencies of the CPUs you're talking about. Here's a table explaining that : MB Freq. CPU Freq. Mult. CPU Freq. 50 Mhz x1.5 75 Mhz 60 " x1.5 90 66 x1.5 100 60 x2 120 66 x2 133 60 x2.5 150 66 x2.5 166 60 x3 180 66 x3 200 As you can see, there's in fact actually only three different Pentium CPUs. That means a P75 CPU and a P100 CPU are the same, except Intel certifies the second is able to support a 100 Mhz frequency. That means also that anybody owning a P75 can force (by using the jumpers situated on his mother board) to work at 90Mhz (and maybe at 100Mhz !!!) It's the same for a P150 owner, and in the future for a P180 owner. Just be sure that your CPU will be cooled properly. It's a, ehh, big hunk of horseshit. A P166 memory bus is at 66MHz just as it is with a P133. Why 166 / 2.5 == 66. (Why is 60MHz wrong? 166 / 60 == 2.7667, the factor must be either 2, 2.5 or 3. Another ex: 150MHz / 60 == 2.5, ) And I have tested ICR2 both on a P166 and a P133. I have a P166 and ICR2 flies in 30fps in SVGA with everything on except the actual track texture which find way too coarse anyway. On a P133 ICR2 is slower but not by much and that is because ICR2 can only do 30fps. I'll bet a P166 would be closer to 35 fps had ICR2 supported more than 30fps. Then the gap between a P133 and a P166 would have been greater but not more than 5fps. Btw the P133 is owned by a friend of mine and we have the exact same motherboard(ASUS Pipeline Burst, etc.). He has a slighter faster videocard than me. He has a Diamond S868 while I have an older chipset. But the performance difference between the videocards is not great in 640x480x256. My P166 is running w/ 16Mb of RAM and my friend has 32Mb. This means that the test is pretty accurate whatever that means. It's not only a rumour but a ***y fact. --- Terje Wold Johansen --- http://www.ifi.uio.no/~terjjo/ --- "I am your inferior superior." O.W.

I would love to see the game run nder Windows 95 and take advantage of Win 95's Direct X drivers. Perhaps then we will get good frame rates with the new 3-d accelerators.
Sorry to say but that's not true. The P-75 and P90/100 are not necessarily made in the same fab, and therefore not necessarily of the same quality. The P-100 _SHOULD_ be better quality but this is not guaranteed. I have had P-75 chips working perfectly at 133Mhz but had P- 90 chips which refused to work even at only 100Mhz. The differences are much more complicated than you mentioned and impossible to predict. Maybe - it depends upon your luck. As I said, P-75 can work at 133, but a P90 can fail at 100. In any case, Intel has been incorporating clock- limiting features in recent chips which prevent the chip running higher than the rated value. Do you have one of these - it depends upon your luck! Overclocking is 10% knowledge, 10% preparation and 80% luck.... Cheers! I don't know about overall speed improvement BUT the P166 also uses the faster bus speed. The P100, P133, P166 all use the 10% faster buss. The P90, P120, P150 are the slower ones. Also Intel will be releasing the P200 next month which also operates at the faster buss speed. Jeff

Nope, not true. its the pentium 150 that got an external 60Mhz rate. The p166 got 66Mhz, like the p133, has an average of 15% speed increase over a P133. i got a P133. A friend of mine got a P166 with a videocard of about the same performance. in some products, like games with a lot of 3D graphics, he sometimes get 30-40% higher performance over mine. Why? i dont know. If you want a p166 that also got a good price/performance index like a p133, buy the new burst pro II boards with the new intel Triton chipset. this raises the speed again up to 20%. michael sh.
If you substitue "P150" for "P166" then it is true under certain circumstances, it depends upon what you're trying to do and the rest of your system. Regarding a P-166 and a P-133 it's certainly NOT true. Cheers! The 133 mhz pentium is a 2x multiplier, and the 166 mhz pentium is a 2.5x multiplier. They both have a bus speed of 66 mhz. It's fairly easy to figure out which ones have a 60 mhz bus and which have a 66 mhz bus. However, the PCI bus on both 133 and 166 mhz systems is 33 mhz, NOT 66. The PCI bus runs at 1/2 the speed of the motherboard. Scott
