Hi I am planning to add 4 buttons to my T2 wheel for F1GP (change up/down, pits, gap) and I was wondering if anyone could suply me with some info on the functions of all the pins in a joystick port, or at least the relevant pins for both buttons on both joysticks. Thanks, Mike -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Mike Sharpe | VISIT MY HOMEPAGE! | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | "The beak of Ayrton Senna's chicken is pulling ahead" - Murray Walker | -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike, I've written up plans to build a wheel and pedal set that I'm sure will contain all the information you need and then some... go to: http://www.oz.net/~wottenad/wheel.htm Hope it helps, Wally

I'd have thought that this would not be possible? As far as I know, you can't reconfigure what keys/controller are used for Pits/Gap - so you'd have to do something like wire the extra buttons in series with the keys on the keyboard ? Dunno - but I think this may be the case. On a similar theme, has anybody added gear change paddles to their T2? I got one recently, and would like to add paddles (or at least whee- mounted gear change buttons). Any thoughts? --

Well... it is possible if you use a TSR utility called gpbutton written by Trevor Kellaway (like all those other utils...). It allows you to assign joystick buttons to keys on the k/b, so that, for instance joy2 button A can be set as g on the keyboard, and button B can be set as Enter I thought about the paddles for a long while, but i decided that it was probably a little complex, so instead i borrowed the idea of someone with a T1 and put buttons in the holes of the top 2 spokes of the wheel. i have two facing away from me in the outermost holes, and two facing towards me in the second hole, the idea being that you can change up/down with your fingers and pits/gap with you thumbs. Apparently, however, many people have told me this is very uncomfortable for them, so maybe i have long fingers or something, but it works fine for me. now all that remains is for me to solder the wires into position and i will let you know the results... There is a web page with pictures of the modified T1 around somewhere, but i am unsure of the URL... anyone know? By the way can anyone tell me if switches with spst contacts rated 0.5 A at 125 VAC (whatever that means) are suitable for direct connection into a joystick port? they are the only ones of the correct diameter i could find... -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Mike Sharpe | VISIT MY HOMEPAGE! | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | "The beak of Ayrton Senna's chicken is pulling ahead" - Murray Walker | -------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sure it will be sufficient to withstand the ominous power generated by your joystick port. :-) Hope it works well! Mike

Since your computer steps down the voltage substantially, those switches should DEFINITELY be able to handle the load. Whats that formula again.. umm... Anyways, the switches that are inside the T2 that I have are the same as the ones you can buy a good ole Radio Shack that have those same specs. Weyr P.S. Make sure you are buying pushbutton switches that are NORMALLY OFF or you will be changing gears all the time EXCEPT when you press the buttons. The Single Pole Single Throw means that activating the switch closes the gap between one pole, where as DPST (Double Pole) means that you are closing the gap between 2 poles, and DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw) means your switch will have 3 positions.. off, on one way and on another.. so make sure for this application it is the SPST.
