Before you all get e***d, this is not a new track for Nascar racing.
I've written a small patch which is still being beta tested which
alters Talladega to give you a "Daytona" substitute.
I'm posting this message in advance to its release into the public
domain, as I've seen a lot of people asking about patches and fixes to
get a Daytona track.
I thought I'd let you know what it does and no, I won't be posting it
here! ;-)
The patch is 57K and takes the TALADEGA.DAT file and patches it to
allow it to be placed in a DAYTONA directory. It doesn't call itself
DAYTONAA.DAT or DAYTONAB.DAT, its DAYTONA.DAT.
The wall textures have been changed slightly so that the Talladega
Speedway references have been removed. The pit wall is a standard
concrete and not red & white and the infield fence is also concrete
and not wood.
Yes I know its actually Armco - I'm working on it.
There are a few scenery changes as well. The tents on the back
straight are replaced with trees, one of the grandstands has become an
observers post, and I've added another garage to the pits.
Before you ask, no the track still has the same profile as Talladega.
We haven't cracked the track editing yet, but we can swapp objects
around.
I'm hoping to take objects from other tracks and include them, such as
scoreboards, etc. You'll have to wait for version 2 for this.
To compensate for the fact that the track is the same as Talladega,
I've altered the AI cars 'style'. They now seem a little psychotic and
when passing a draft, don't be suprised if you find a car up front
pulling out in front of you. I've also found that cars tend to pull
out more and 'have a go'.
So, now you know its here whens it coming out.
Well. I'm awaiting some information from Ger*** altering the STP
files so that I can change the Talladega picture and logo on the
selection screen.
I'm hoping to have this done withing two weeks. if not, I'll release
it as is.
Please, don't send me any e-mail asking to be a beta tester, we've got
enough,
And yes, Daytona does appear in the championship schedule when you've
got the patch working.
