My crappy local branch of Martins (it's a gianormous News Agent BTW) didn't have it today, only the old issue. I knew it was due out. I'll be first in the queue tomorrow morning :-) Well, I don't believe that. 25FPS is the maximum speed the PC version of F1GP can run at. So, if they managed to get that kind of performance in *SVGA* on a Pentium 90, I'll be impressed! I wouldn't be at all suprised if they just had a small demo and some screenshots, and published the frame rates and specifications that Microprose fed them. Well, not long till we get to find out all for ourselves :-) Thanks for the info. Steve.

This months PC gamer carries an indepth review of GP2 (so if you want to know more buy it), however I will say this: The min spec is DX2/66 with 8Mb of RAM for VGA and a P90 with 16Mb for SVGA. The review says that the SVGA is smooth (although I don't know how smooth - they didn't say much, all they said was P90 SVGA 25FPS), and that there is alot of detail in it (we knew this already). The review was very vague in some areas, so it wouldn't surprise me if they were reviewing a Beta version and made some parts of it up (ala First Encounters), although the review did carry some pictures which I had not seen before (eg. the helmet view of Damon Hill). The reviewer gave it 95/100 which is quite good I suppose. Anyway... if you're in the UK, and you want to know alittle more about GP2, buy PC Gamer magazine (It has a GP2 type picture on the cover and the review starts on page 60'ish) Ray Ko Information Technology Dept, University of Portsmouth (UK) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= (Valid until August 1996) URL : http://www.pbs.port.ac.uk/~sis4381/ (Until August 1996.. or it could be on the move) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "You know what... when the world turns its back on you.. you turn your back on the world" - The Lion King (37 Po48Dg == No don't do it.. its more hassle than its worth) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

When running F1GP at 25 fps on my computer (with full detail and track texture), I get a processor occupancy of 18 - 20 % which effectively means that the game could be running at 125 fps if there was any point in this!! Fraser

<snip> I may be an idiot but I could beleive 25 fps in SVGA. I have a P90. F1GP1, set to 25 fps, only gets 29% processor occupancy on a clean track and 33% occupancy on a full track (ie on the grid with all the other cars in front) and with the detail level set to full. Well, yes, I get something like that running F1GP on my machine. But, remember all the graphical extras that have been added since the first version. Lighting effects, full texture mapping, numerous extra views and so on. .. But, I've seen the review for myself now, and it looks genuine enough to me. So, if they say 25FPS on a P90 in SVGA, I believe them! Just one comment. What the hell were those people on about who saw the demo at the recent Autosport show? Where did all that "won't run on a P120" come from? I suspect that the people who were demonstrating the game didn't know what machine it was, or were badly mistaken. Oh well, my local store still says 23rd February release date. So, we'll just have to wait and see! I'll be first in the queue. Steve.
Err...that was a software limitation. You need to hit a WWW page, I forget which, that allows you to set the frame rate over 25.5 FPS. That's just a comparison of apples to oranges ;) Jeff

That'll be mine; http://www.mal.com/~dgymer/f1gp/util/ - hopefully soon moving to Games Domain. However, I will reiterate that the game's internal design really isn't up to running faster than 25 FPS (it may be able to cope with 27, but no higher) and trying to do so will end in tears. I hope GP2 will let me turn the detail right down and get 30 or 40 FPS in SVGA on my P90. Even if it means buying a new graphics card. --

As far as I am concerned, I couldn't believe it : I played a demo of gp2 in late november (Multimedia World Show - Paris) and it hardly (120/140% occupancy) reached 14 fps on P75...in VGA ! -- Cedric MILLET - Eleve-ingenieur ESIAL "L'atemporalite est une notion transhistorique corroborant la physico-logistique du phenomene humain." Thats quite a contradition ... being a P90 the minimum configuration and then stating that it would run at 25 FPS on it with a lot of detail. Regarding to the frame rates I will only believe it after I see it !!! ********************************************** Carlos Miguel Santos Cordeiro **********************************************

(about PC Gamer review) PC Gamer gave over 90 points to WipEout and Fatal Racing, both of which don't run decently even on fast Pentium. Even VGA mode leaves lot to be desired. They must have their Pentiums on steroids.... Jari Turunen

I asked one woman on the stand and she said that she didn't know what they were running GP2 on. As far as I could tell the VGA version flew along at a huge rate of knots and the only reason the SVGA wasn't there was that it wasn't (isn't???) fiinished yet! To be perfectly honest, how many of these people expressing an opinion actually went, and how many are passing on heresay? All I can say to the doubters is *** OFF! This game is being made perfect. If you look at the slating that GP Manager got here you may understand why Geoff Crammond is keeping it back until IT not YOU is ready. To be perfectly honest an upgrade of F1GP is going to be better than playing the old one for the next 5 years isn't it. II don't see anybody moaning that MPS haven't released a 199x carset/trackpack for F1GP! Max
>The minimum spec is a DX2 486 running at 66 MHz, not a P90. I was talking minimum specs for SVGA, not VGA !!!!
