1) I didn't waste money on ICR2 -- It was money well spent!
2) Except for some bugs (which I hope Papyrus will live up to their
past practice & will fix), I don't find it to be overrated or
underdesigned. It is especially not a miserable simulator.
To each their own. I enjoyed the original Indianapolis 500 & IndyCar
Racing. I also enjoy ICR2. As a matter of fact I enjoy it more than
Indy 500 & ICR.
Take it back where you bought it and demand your money back.

I agree completely, ICR2 is a laff!!! I worship F1GP and will dance *** in the town
square when GP2 comes out, but I thought ICR2 was completely excellent. I can't really
handle any of the fast setups because I seem to brake too late and turn too soon, but I
still think the game is a superstar!! Shame there's no red/green lights at the start
though, the pace lap is too tedious!

I have to disagree. I have all three Papyrus sims, and only play ICR2 -
the others, as you say, handle more like tanks than racing cars. I think
you will find that with relatively minor setup changes (I normally get
good results by taking the 'FAST' setup, softening the rear shocks, and
stiffening the front) the car becomes much more driveable.
I suspect, that you are likely to be in a minority with this one - even
guys like me who still prefer F1GP, think that Papyrus have done a good
job with ICR2 - the driving model is *MUCH* better than their previous
releases (but still isn't perfect).
Cheers,
Steve.

ICR 2 is very likely a direct port from NASCAR(incl. bugs). For example
the draft effect is just like NASCAR, virtually none existent except at Michigan.
It is full of bugs and quirks, the graphics are dull as is the scenery.
The sky is pale blue with no clouds whatsoever(should've been optionable).
There are no improvements of ICR 2 over NASCAR v1.21 except for higher frame
rate in SVGA which is due to UniVBE and not Papyrus. Also the AI may be a
little better at the road courses.
The bottom line:
ICR 2 for Dos is a product that is tainted by the rush to get it out
before Xmas. A patch should imminent as not to qualify ICR 2 as a rip off.
Sure hope the Win95 version will rectify all the bugs and discrepancies
without introducing too many new ones. Btw is should have a sky texture,
it would improve the visual impact considerably.
Apart from the above I love ICR 2 and play it a lot because there are a lot of
positive sides too like the physical model which is superb even though it is
quite reminiscent of NASCAR, the AI is pretty good, the depth of the sim is
more profound than ever(most impotant) and finally it has fast SVGA graphics.

Terje,
clouds whatsoever(should've been optionable).<<
Pretty graphics are nice, but aren't a major part of the sim for me. I
would rather have good frame rates and a good driving model. As long as
there is sufficient detail to judge braking points and who you are racing
against, anything else is pure eye-candy. If you want to see clouds -
look out the window.

I'd say the AI is better all round, and don't forget the driving model is
significantly superior in ICR2.

i just got to agree! i the the min and max framerates too close together
and the horizon kept flashing on and off - but i didn't notice for days
(actually i didn't notice at all: my flatmate asked me about it!). this
sim is so involving that you seldom get a chance to look at anything but
the road and the other cars.
also the ai is such an improvement on icr and nascar.

In some respects you are correct. The menus, replay operations, driver,
and track data files are clones. The Indycar handling is much more
difficult than the predecessor reflecting the rules changes implemented
between versions.
If you feel like waiting a generation or two for a processor that can
handle that, be my guest. Mine has enough trouble keeping up as is.
The AI is *much* better and is the one signle most important improvement
in the game. After playing NASCAR the Indycar AI were more suited to
driving NASCARs.
I'm sure that there will be a few patches forthcoming to correct a few
things.
Screw the sky. Keep your eyes on the road where they belong.
Whew. For a moment I thought you might be a F1GP fanatic who after many
years of development claim that F1 is still better than ICR2.

I've only had ICR2 a few weeks, so I'm still basically a novice, but I
think it's an excellent simulation and a very impressive piece of
programming.
If you find the cars hard to drive (as I did, too, when I opened the box),
some suggestions for learning a track:
* load the factory "easy" setting. of course, if you think the car
"handles like a tank," you might prefer the "ace" setting which is set
up for oversteer. at loudon, for example, this gives you very little
rear wing. flies down the straight but watch out, the tail will step
out on you....
* turn the turbo boost down
* practice on a half tank of fuel
* use the behind the car arcade view (F10)
* use the tire temperature display. remember you get little grip
until the tires get to about 200 degrees, so drive accordingly.
* invest in a steering wheel controller -- this is a big plus over a
joystick both in terms of control and realism.
yours for good racing,

Absolutely. Also look at how much more 'racing' goes on with the AI
cars... looks great from my point of view when I'm steaming up behind
'em!

I love ICR2, but you do have a good point. I can smash the hell out of the
rear end of the car with little to no damage and still retain the engine, but
I'll damage the front end with a medium impact and everything's gone. Kinda
strange?!? Just one of those things I'll learn to live with.
