Of course, the Nascar Racing release is obviously the greatest game I've
ever played. I've flown planes before, and I've drove in a Nascar liscened
short track race many times, and Nascar Racing is a far better simulation
to racing than Microsoft's Flight Simulator is to flying. (in case if
you're wondering, I drove a SUPER LATE MODEL through the Winston Cup
series out here in Arizona. Its a small licsened Nascar league with great
racers and sponsers). But is Nascar Racing missing something? They've got
races you can play, and Winston Cup seasons you can play, but how about
the Big Races? Perhaps Daytona 500, the Brickyark 400? Perhaps they can
make an add-on or a new game all together. Of course its fun to imagine
you're already in those races, like Goody's 500 on the Bristol track
included. Maybe they could?
Wish list for NASCAR Racing 2
Players proposed features for NASCAR Racing 2 such as tow trucks, a spotter, more pit and timing information, realistic damage, running for points after repairs and a track designer. Rick Genter of Papyrus explained that Sega held exclusive rights to Daytona and Papyrus lacked a license for Indianapolis beyond the original IndyCar Racing. Others complained the yellow-flag trigger was too sensitive and noted pit road shapes were limited by Papyrus's track tools.

Perhaps Daytona 500, the Brickyark 400?

This comes up again and again.
Sega owns the exclusive license to Daytona, preventing us from releasing a
Daytona track for NASCAR. While we had a license to use Indianapolis for
the original IndyCar Racing, we do not have license to use it for either
NASCAR Racing or IndyCar Racing II. We would if we could...

1. Tow trucks - have tow trucks come out and get the wrecked vehicles
(including yours) it's not very realistic to have the cars suddenly
disappear. also would i would rather get towed in to the pits to end a
race rather than just hitting esc.
2. more decal area in paintshop - let us paint every little square inch
of the car. if we want to put a logo on top of the trunk, rear bumper or
front fenders let us.
3. computer cars most turn themselves around normally - i'm tired of
seeing the computer cars spin out and get themselves back on track by
doing these batman u-turns. make them put the car in reverse just like
we have to. also 1 time in a pile up i was rugh next to a car that did
the batman u-turn, his uturn hit me and knocked out my back tires (i was
not happy)
4. let us suffer from mechanical problems - we've seen the computer
players drop from engine, gear, electircal etc. problems. let those
things happen to us too.
5. bug fixes - all these problems people have been complaining about.
(i.e. cars passing in pit row. being told to get behind cars that were a
full legnth behind you when you crossed the line during yellow, those
invisible walls, car mergings, computer cars pitting when pits are
closed, computer players passing thru pit wall, etc)
well thats it. i don't think i ask for too much. :)

TOW TRUCKS?????? How about trucks that push???? I always end up as the car
that has to push the crushed car from behind!!! My latest incedent was
with Rick Mast. He had some clutch problem and stopped in the middle of
the road!! I waited through nearly 3 gallons of gas, along with 39 other
cars and a pace car for him to move. Finally I drove past all of the cars
and bumped him until he started to move and drive again!! It wasn't bad,
but I bent all my fendors.
I'd like to throw out my 2 cents worth.
1) On the standings screen, I would like to see the lap number for the last pit
for ALL cars. Also, would like to see what was done during the pit stop even
though this point is not as important. I would like to be able to plan my
pit stops according to when others were pitting. NASCAR teams know this info
during a race.
2) I would really like to see double row restarts that follow NASCAR rules.
Keep up the good work Papyrus and hope your listening everyone's suggestions.

This sounds good. I'd like to know the leader's lap time as well as
mine. I don't care about "speeds" as much as "times" let's start
using seconds instead of mph!
Right now I think they are lined up in order of the carset. Sounds
like a big internal fix, but not a bad idea.
How about a crew chief that you communicate with? Tell him your
problem and let him help you out. Some race drivers, like Rusty
Wallace, are great chassis people. Some other drivers, however,
aren't. You ever notice a driver who doesn't do so hot, then he gets
with a certain team and does great? the crew chief and driver mesh,
for starters, and those setups make a HUGE difference! (hut stricklin
in the 26 car this year, for example. Bobby Hillin in the 77 car too)

I *know* C***te's pits aren't right. And there is no wall on the
other side of pit road either. That is sort of aggravating. Too bad
the "ovals" weren't there at C***te either - would be fun to just
"run 1/4 mile laps"

I dunno. In reality, the spotter is the main man. He blurts "green
flag green flag go! go! go!" at the start and restarts, and "caution!
spin in turn 3", etc...

How about more realisic damage. I know the sheet meatl damage is pretty
good, but how about some damage to the doors and chassie? And when you
blow a tire, be able to limp back, I've seen the indycars drive back with
one tire bent up parelell to the road. Here, the front tire damage is
pretty good, but how about the rear ones, I can barely top 5 mph with one
tire gone. Oh, and could you fix that car overlap problem I just saw
Ricky Rudd drive right through Darrel Waltrip.

The problem was the track modeling program didn't allow them to use the
right configuration. They can't let the pit road get more than a certain
distance from the main road. (At least that's what the Papyrus tech
folks tell me.) It's a shame, but, I'd much rather them fix the dogleg
at Talladega.
Mike
How about releasing track desiging software so we users could create the
tracks? It wouldn't be Papy supported, but at least we could race there!

It's NOT going to happen. You're asking Papyrus to shoot themselves in
the foot. I'd love to see it happen too, but it won't.

I wish Papyrus would make some kind of track designer too. Something
like Microsoft Flight Simulator's one wouldn't hurt Papyrus too bad.
Something where you're really limited on buildings and stuff. With the
flight sim, I could have made my own scenery, but it wasn't nearly as
good as the one you buy off the shelf. Nowhere near it! Also, it took
so long, that I quit before I finished.

I'd certainly like to see that.
How about being able to bump cars without seeing a yellow flag? I mean
'rub' not crash. Define 'crash' as loosing an engine or a tire in order
to bring out a yellow, this way a spin doesn't necessarily bring out a
caution.
Mike
I agree with Mike, let there be spin outs but if no-one
except the car the spins is involved then there should
be no yellow flag!!

The Yellow Flag Trigger is just way to sensative in my Opinon.
I can just lightly bump into another car trying to pass it, and
a yellow is put out. I know the car didn't spin out becuase
the damn car is still in front of me.
This happens all the time
>i've found that unless a car comes to a complete stop the caution
>generally doesn't fly...i've bounced my car of another car and the the
>wall...spun it...then kept going...didn't get a caution (granted my
>car was trashed but it stayed green)
I've had times where I've whacked the outside wall coming out of a turn
hard enough to "damage wheel" or whatever, but always kept the car
pointed in the right direction, but the yellow would still come out.
Must have been all that debris falling off my fine Monte Carlo. But
you know those Chevys.

The reason why Nascar is slower than, for example, than
NFS, is that at the same time as it handles the graphics,
it also handles heavy AI and physics routines, which defini-
tely are not part of Need for speed or other arcade games.
However, Mr. Genter posted a while back that Papyrus has de-
veloped an improvement to their texture mapping engine that
(on Pentium machines only) gives up to +70% performance
in texture mapping. Thus... Indycar 2.0 and the upcoming
Nascar for Windows should have pretty nice frame rates even
on lower end Pentium machines (I.E. P90)
