More ICR2 questions

No curbs, but I still have two questions about ICR2: 1) Does it have the 1.8 mpg fuel limit as real indycar races have? 2) Are the physics more realistic? In ICR1 the car seems to have too much grip in corners and too low top speed in straights. Pasi.

In ICR1 the car seems to have too much grip in corners and too low top speed in straights. <<< The fuel restriction is a realism option in ICR II. As for the physics, we've updated it for the '95 engines (Cosworth, Mercedes and Honda) and the '95 tires (Goodyear and Firestone), and are working feverishly to get the grip values right. As far as too low a top speed, I think that has more to do with your car set up than anything else. That all depends on the setup you are using for the car. Austin, Tx ============================================================ Scott Pruett or Robby Gordon as the 1995 PPG Cup Champion! ============================================================
[skip] Great!!:)) What causes the ICR drivers to have up to 20mph less top speed at the road courses and the street circuits is the fact that Papyrus has got the drag/traction/torque/downforce figures wrong. We need much more wing than the real drivers to get the same lap times. Don't say that we are bad drivers because with similar wing settings the real drivers would be far off the pace because the wings would only yield a lot of drag and not enough traction to balance it out. That a *lot* of wing yields very good lap times in ICR is a token that something is wrong. The real IndyCars have 180mph at the end of the back straight at Toronto. If we opt for 180mph top speed we can't even go through the turns without crawling around(soft compound), which suggests that the wings give way too much downforce(sounds contradictory...). The point is that if the amount of downforce was plotted on the y-axis and the amount of wing was plotted on the x-axis the curve would have been hyperbolic(FIG. 1). max^ | . d | . o | . w | . n | . f | . o | . FIG. 1 r | . c | . e |. min---------------------------> zero wing max wing If the wings yield a lot less downforce and the above curve was linear we would maybe reach 180 mph at the end of the back straight at Toronto with our current wing settings and be somehow slower in the turns. This probably would require that the engines had some more torque in the top half of the power band too. The bottom line is that the cars have too much drag and too much traction. -- Terje Wold Johansen "I am your inferior superior." -- -- Dept. of Informatics, University of Oslo, Norway --
I have even more questions: 1) Will the graphics for rainy conditions be improved? World Circuit had simulated spray graphics to simulate rooster-tails of water coming from the tires, which ICR1 only showed gray roads and dark skies. (BTW, I DO like World Circuit's rainy graphics better, to set the record straight) 2) Will there be a pit speed limit? -- +----------------------+-------------------------+ | G. Austin, Tx ============================================================ Scott Pruett or Robby Gordon as the 1995 PPG Cup Champion! ============================================================ Yeah, sure, but you still can't pull off the same sort of speeds that they do in reality. Elkhart is a good example. In reality (at least according to the commentators) IndyCars run close to 200 mph on the straights, but still make it out of the carousel at 150... Try the same with ICR and you'll find it pretty tough to hit 190 and make it through the carousel above 120... Ofcourse at tracks like Cleveland ICR is totally unrealistic as you can pile downforce up front and pull every turn at 120+, but only catch a top-end of 160, and still slash the real laptimes... It helps to cut through the pits and mow the lawn as well... ;) On the ovals you can get better times with more downforce, but less top-end. Michigan is the extreme example with 230 in the turns and 250 on the straights... The realistic balance of the setups isn't quite right... A minor thing compared to the 0 IQ AI... ;) _________________________________________________________________________ _/\_ University of Helsinki ________/_\/_\________ Physics/Computer Science NIGHTSTALKERS 37th TFW Web: http://www.helsinki.fi/~reimaa/ IWCC 3: #73 Finlandia - Ford Internet IndyCar Challenge II: Flying Finns Motorsports Thunder Racing International #73 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It seems to be easier to go -V.Adm. And, to add to this question, will the pit speed limits be realistic like the real tracks (i.e. no 55mph speed limit at Michigan)? <<< It's currently set at 80 MPH. I want to put in variable (per track) speed limits, but don't know if it'll get in. Rick Genter Technical Lead, IndyCar Racing II/NASCAR Racing for Macintosh/Windows Papyrus Design Group, Inc.

1) Will the graphics for rainy conditions be improved? <<< I'm hoping so, but no promises. (I don't want to sacrifice frame rate to get more realistic rain graphics.) 2) Will there be a pit speed limit? <<< Yes. Is ICR 2 going to be ported to the Sony Playstation and if so when?
