I just purchased NASCAR Racing and think it's a great product. I've
updated to v1.21 so, to my knowledge, I have the latest version.
Still, there are several annoying faults in the game, namely:
1. Computer drivers coming off a pit stop under a yellow flag will
insert themselves ahead of others in the line of cars trailing the
pace car, rather than taking their place at the back. The docs lack
any overview of NASCAR rules, but I'm assuming this is illegal, as my
car is penalized for doing the same thing.
2. Computer drivers involved in a crash seem to recover from a
spin-out almost instantaneously.
3. Computer drivers pass you under a yellow flag. Again, I don't
know the rules well, but I've always understood that passing wasn't
allowed under a yellow in any racing event.
There are also some annoying design shortcomings to NASCAR, which I
hope aren't repeated in ICR2.
1. The player is limited to the return key to input numbers and make
selections. This is ridiculous. Cycling through 30+ drivers to get
to the one you want to examine in a replay is tedious, and increasing
stagger by an inch (for example) takes an inordinate amount of time.
How about choosing from a menu or being able to type the desired
number in directly?
2. The docs lack any mention of basic NASCAR rules. A brief blurb on
the significance of the pace car, yellow and black flags is necessary.
Hopefully someone from Papyrus will read this, and implement the
changes for v1.3 of NASCAR.

They do this because Papyrus Nascar doesn't implement double file starts.
Who ever reaches the end of the pit wall first wins the position. hmm.. I
don't have v1.21 (I have v1.2).
: 2. Computer drivers involved in a crash seem to recover from a

In V1.2, if a car spins, they come to a stop and pause before moving
again. In previous versions, they would spin and then start moving
without pausing.

This is strange. They should not be allowed to do this. How and when do
they pass you under a yellow? They can pass you in the pits if pits speed
is 55mph and the pace car speed is 40 mph.

yeah, it is a pain. I just end up holding the <enter> key down until the
proper stagger is reached.

Yeah... someone is working on a FAQ for Nascar. Maybe they will have some
of that in there.
BTW, how's that Faq coming along? I don't know to much but if you need
help, let me know.

Bill,
If you have access to the Web, Papyrus has a home page where you can give
comments about the game. You have some good ideas, you ought to let them
know. http://www.papy.com

While the DOS interface hasn't changed in this respect for IndyCar Racing
II (there just hasn't been time), the Windows 95 and Macintosh interfaces
are much nicer in this regard.

I don't know for sure about the situation mentioned above I have observed the
following. The yellow flag came out just before I got to the start/finish
line. The yellow flag waved when I crossed (I was in 1st place :-) ).
I noticed that cars came out of the pit and passed me and the pace car on the back
stretch. I assume the cars were in the pits when the yellow flag came out because
I did not see any cars pit in front of me when the yellow came out. I believe they
were allowed to pass because they had not crossed the start/finish line and received
the waving yellow flag. Just a guess on my part, but it sounds logical to me.

Once a yellow flag is thrown, you still have to "Race back to the Line."
That means full speed until you pass the Start/Finish line. Often this
will mean you have to "Race" through the collision area and can pass or
be passed by your competitors.

First off, are you using v1.2 of NASCAR? If not, upgrade!
Do you see the yellow flag wave when you take it? If not you have to go
another lap.
If you are not leading and you are on the lead lap after you've taken the
yellow you can pass the pace car if the leader hasn't caught up with it yet.

In my version (1.21) you can cycle backwards if you have a 2-button
joystick. This also works with camera views.
