GpFlags' annoying side-effect

10 posts by 9 people · 28 Aug 1995 - 30 Aug 1995

I discovered that this patch (yellow flags are brought out much quicker and wrecked cars are removed slower) has a very annoying side-effect: Pitstop times are much slower than they used to be. The first time I noticed this was when it happened to my LFRS teammate in his official race for Brazil. Normally, they vary from 5.7 to 9.7 seconds, but his two regular race pitstops lasted 16.7 and... 21.7 seconds! He had no broken wings, and after removing GpFlags from memory the pitstop times were back to normal. Has anybody else noticed this too? -- Imar de Vries | 'Those crazy Ferrari fans sure make a lot of noise... : Pitstop times are much slower than they used to be. Well, Brazil is one track where pit stops CAN last that long. Every once in a while, a pit stop will last more than the normal time, even if there is no damage to the wings. I have seen this most often at Brazil. It almost always happens at the worst times. For example, you have just built up a nice 15s lead on your modem buddy when you decide to pit for tires. Then you get one of those annoying 10-18s pit stops and lose everything you worked for. As for the gpflags bug, I have not seen that happen. Maybe it has something to do with the 'style' of WC/F1GP (ie European, US, etc).

No, not at all. First of all, GP Flags is not a TSR, it is a direct patch the executable file. What it basically does is to change two time values in GP.EXE (both in milliseconds). So, once you've run GP Flags once, it's done it's job. Removing it from memory should make no difference what so ever. I've had it installed on my copy of GP (in fact, with different time values) for a few weeks now and have not noticed any side effects (ie. pit stops are the same). Mind you, I did notice that on stopping in the pits following a qualifying lap, sometimes the view immediately switched to another car. However, this could simply be because of all the other little changes I'm trying to my copy of F1GP at the moment :-) _________ ___________________________________________ -------------------------------------------------------------------- F1GP/F1 Fan - House music lover - Manic Mountain Biker - Cool Dude;)

I have not had long pitstop problem (well usually I m in getting wings fixed anyway) but I have a different problem: If I race in Car 40 in a link game I go in the pits and suddenly I am not in the race anymore. Does not happen with Car 19 or others. Could this be because of using cars above #36, or might it be GPflags. Never happened before Gpflags patch. I also have the Q-Tyres patch. ANyone else able to replicate this problem? -- LoR 2.3.IX: He began to pull down a bit more of the walls, in a leisurely sort of way, just to amuse himself.

Howdy Gary. I'm still*** with GEnie, but just barely. As for Car #40 going out, that has more to do with ccpit than with gpflags. Course, if you don't have ccpit, that rules that out, but who in their right mind would own WC and NOT have the add ons. ;) I don't usually mess with the car numbers. That's just begging for trouble. I don't use the numbers above 36, but I've seen side effects of using them. That side-effect being that your name becomes #37 or #38, etc.

I'll be talking to Trevor Kellaway (the author of the utilities) over the next couple of days so I'll him about this. Mike.

Were you running CCPIT? I understand this uses #36+ to store the pit stop information. Could stuff up your car if it overwrites the car info there. Chris
