IndyCar Racing II platforms and Windows 95 debate

News that IndyCar Racing II would support Windows 95 sparked an argument over Win95 versus DOS, NT and OS/2, with some threatening boycotts. Rick Genter of Papyrus confirmed the game would release simultaneously for DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Macintosh, with no OS/2 version planned. A rumour of a delay was raised but not confirmed.

Just thought you'd like to know that Indy II is going to be a Windows 95 game. Opinions? Ted Petrenko -- ====================================================================== Universite de Montreal, Dept. IRO. S-234, C.P. 6128, succursale A Montreal (Quebec) H3C 3J7, CANADA (514) 343-7535

>Just thought you'd like to know that Indy II is going to be a Windows 95 >game. Opinions? They said that the game would come with DOS and Windows (can't remember if it was 95 only or what) on the same CD. So, it'll give an excellent example of how Win 95 can handle a game vs DOS. I'd prefer the game to be runnable from Win 95 since if games can run just as fast then it would be a huge improvement over the current situation. That's right, finally Mac's can be used for something useful.

Good. I take it back. I will buy it for DOS. :-) For the Mac too? Is there a planned version for OS/2?? Perhaps someone from Papyrus would care to comment?? Vip

Ouch! That hurt all the way over here... :-) Of course, DOS is just something I use to load games. Windows 95 is just a prettier way to do it.

>Just thought you'd like to know that Indy II is going to be a Windows 95 >game. Opinions? Yeah, I think it sucks. I do not want to win95 on my hard drive and would not have to if all these games were not coming out for it. I may be saved if someone writes a joystick driver for windows nt. As far as I can remember it will be a Windows95 version in *addition* to the DOS version. Papyrus is not stupid, systems with DOS OS will outnumber systems with Win95 for long time after the release of Win95... -- Terje Wold Johansen "I am your inferior superior." -- -- Dept. of Informatics -- -- University of Oslo, Norway --

Do you think Ford wants to stay with 16 bit Word 6.0 or use 32 bit Word 7.0? Microsoft has gone to great lengths to make sure win95 goes on the 'corporate desktop'. : later, : jim ( who is looking for 50 free megs on my hdd to install win95 :( ) For the cost of purchasing a PC and games like those from Papyrus, you should also be able to afford a few more megs. The May '95 Insight ad shows most brands of 540MB drives at $200. : >Ted Petrenko : >-- : >====================================================================== : >Universite de Montreal, Dept. IRO. Don't bet on it. I know developers at a few game companies, and there is a big push to 'Window 95ize' their games. Common sound and graphics drivers, less worries about configurations, and built-in network/comm support. --- Gavin Gavin Adams, Greenwich, CT BEWARE Pacific Coast Micro! Gee's, have you ever even tried Win95. I guess your still content with Wordstar (ie-old outdated software for old outdated systems running old outdated operating systems), though.

Warp wins hands down for usability. Contrary to what some 'experts' think in this newsgroup, WIN95 sucks. And until you have tried other OS then keep your uninformed comments to yourselves. Until you ***s stop buying into Microsoft hype, we'll be stuck with some form of crap... TJ PS. Win95 will take a long time to make in it on the corporate desktop..

I run NT 3.5 on one of my machines... excellent. But I like Win95 too. It's great.

For OS/2? Yeah Right Why bother?!
<stuff deleted...> I heard that IndyCar Racing 2.0 is delayed. I would be very sad if this is true :) Can anyone deny/confirm this? -- Terje Wold Johansen "I am your inferior superior." -- -- Dept. of Informatics -- -- University of Oslo, Norway --
<snip> I haven't heard this rumor, but if delay means more improvements for ICR2, I don't complain. I've been playing ICR for two years, and I quess I'll spend more time with ICR2 so some delay in release date doesn't mean that much. Can't do that. Pasi.

You are an IDIOT! What determines a particular OS useability is the environment it is used in. I recently replaced windows 3.11 with Win 95 on MY CORPORATE DESKTOP and it is fantastic for me. It is a much more "intelligent" OS, recognizes the environment, (on my laptop it knows when it is docked or undocked) and knows the best runtime memory configuration automatically for different applications.) Maybe you would prefer us to all switch to 286s running 3270 emulation hooked to some monster mainframe...
