Notable threadNASCAR Racing Track Pack release and Talladega accuracy

Posters announced that the NASCAR Racing track expansion would ship on May 16, 1995 with Charlotte, Sears Point, Dover, Richmond, Rockingham and North Wilkesboro, while Daytona and Indianapolis were excluded for licensing reasons. Rick Genter, IndyCar Racing 2.0 technical lead at Papyrus, said ICR 2.0 would use the NASCAR engine and be Papyrus's first cross-platform game. Buyers reported the pack included the 1.2 patch, that Sears Point was hard, that the UK release would slip to late summer, and criticised the Talladega tri-oval and curved pit roads.

Do you have any info about new tracks, ie. C***te, Daytona, Indy....?

Here's to readers of British *** magazines: Has there been any indication when Nascar Track Pack will be released in Europe? I'm hoping for the best, since the release dates of Nascar Racing in US and Europe were only couple of weeks apart. : Rob Berryhill Pasi.

Whats the deal? Is this just an upgrade to ICR1.05 (presumably with the NASCAR graphics engine), or a whole new game? And whats the cost? Is this just an upgrade to ICR1.05 (presumably with the NASCAR graphics engine), or a whole new game? <<< IndyCar Racing 2.0 (the name is still tentative) is an upgraded version of IndyCar Racing. It uses the NASCAR graphics engine, and will be Papyrus' first cross-platform game. It will be released simultaneously for DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Macintosh. RickGent 17 May 1995#301376
Its good to see another road course! What's Sears Point like? <<< Sears Point is about 3 times as difficult as Watkins Glen (IMHO). (They raced there a week and a half ago; the average lap speed at about the 3/4 point of the race was 71 MPH.) Rick Genter Technical Lead, IndyCar Racing 2.0 Papyrus Design Group, Inc.

As far as I know US only. Probably similar to a Patch if not a patch.. It's a serious road course... Gunna be harder to negotiate than Watkins Glen. Good Luck in the UK, RANDY YOUNG

Actually, I've seen them go three wide through the tri-oval in a sim race. Of course I wasn't able to do it safely because I couldn't really see the cars around me (I drive inside the car, not outside in arcade mode) Perhaps if I decided to work on getting used to Nascar Racing in that mode I'd be able to do it, but then it would lose it's sim appeal for me. The way I see it, I cannot drive through there in a pack of three wide because I am not an accomplished Nascar Driver... I'm a virtual driver in a PC sim. <snip> : The way I see it, I cannot drive through there in a pack of three wide because : I am not an accomplished Nascar Driver... I'm a virtual driver in a PC sim. The trioval can be taken three wide, but not flat out and three wide. Now the question: Do real world nascars take the trioval flat out in these conditions, or do they lift off? I haven't seen incar footage with telemetry readings from Talladega, so I don't know (Eurosport shows each race compressed into one hour format). The tri-oval looked bit different in tv footage, but it is quite difficult to compare computer simulation represention to tv image (just check any track, it looks different in tv screen or picture compared to reality). : Ralf Pasi.

: : New Tracks Being Released May 16th: Picked up my copy 5/19/95 at Electronic Botique : Is that date just for the US or do we Brits get it then too? : Anyone know how it will tie in with the CD version? It requires 15 meg of HardDisk space as it creates the tracks on your hard drive. : Its good to see another road course! What's Sears Point like? Sears Point is like a REAL road course should be Twisty and up and down. If you didn't like Watkins Glen, you'll HATE Sears Point. However, if you want a GREAT road course -- THIS IS IT! Did some practice runs at Dover and it seems as if the "EASY" yellow was fixed on this track. I had quite a few fender rubbing situations with Jeff Gordon. We both got a little out of shape and checked up to gather it back in and NO Yellow flag. I even lost it once and smacked the inside wall, damaging my front left. I gathered up back up and still no Yellow. -- **************************** Michael E. : Um, since you work there, is there any chance on seeing a correct : representation of the Talladega track? I noticed that the real folks : could go three wide on the tri-oval. If I tried that I'd be eating concrete! Well it can be done in the sim. You need to set your car up right and lift "slightly" on the throttle if you want to squeeze another car into the dogleg. -- **************************** Michael E. Carver ************************* Upside out, or inside down...False alarm the only game in town. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=<[ /./. [- < ]>=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
I agree with Taladega, the tri-oval representation is totally inaccurate. Often I hit the wall tring to go 2 wide on the outside. Even on the inside you have to cut it sharp.

I got it!!!!!! It's pretty cool but the tracks are no pieces of cake. Especially Sears Point.... very hard.. Paid $19.69 with my employee discount at Best Buy! Well Worth the Money, and time waiting. Good job Papyrus. Now if I only could win one of these new races... I had a little trouble with the season loading because of the file names in the calendar file were not the same. Rockingham, North Wilkesboro, and C***te would not be put in the Championship season w/o editing. Otherwise fine. RANDY YOUNG
Does the NASCAR Track Pack also include an update that supersedes v1.2? No it's true, the turn is too sharp. The real tri-oval would take seven seconds at race speed from the time you turn the wheel to the time you turn it straight, on the sim it takes only four. Not to mention, the real turn takes you out right underneath the flagstand. Don't worry even the accomplished NASCAR drivers couldn't get through this turn if the real thing was modeled after this sim. The sim is excellent and it's definately not the setup as someone suggested, if it was, someone would be telling us that they went three wide in the sim. Yeah, I finally got through to their UK support number the other day asking about replacement manuals and asked about the release of this. Mid to late summer I was told, which equates to late July/early August as you say! Bollox. Oh well, that gives me some more time to master the current tracks (just got the hang of Michigan!) Stuart. I just got the track pack and updated the Calendar file for the championship season. However, when I load the season, it only shows races up to Sept. 17, leaving out the last six races of the season! Is there a way to race the entire season (aside from Daytona and Indy of course)? John -- John C. McCanless Department of Electrical Engineering University of ***ia

I think it was all done in an effort to keep track design simple and to limit the virtual area that the cars actually drive on. Notice that there are inside retaining walls on these digital tracks as well? Julio C. Chacon, Jr. Officially Sanctioned Race Fanatic "Beware of the Blue Oval..."
