I was just curious. Does anyone know if Papyrus will be
doing a Formula-1 simulation? I know that Microprose has
World-Circuit out, but IndyCar Racing was a big hit and
NASCAR seems destined to surpass that, it only seems logical
that they would move into F-1. Any ideas or comments?
Also, does anyone know if Papyrus will release a revamped
version of IndyCar with all the fixes and new features in
NASCAR that are appicable?
Thanks alot!

hoping F1GP II will be equally good compared to today's "standards".
When the Microprose licence to make F1 games expires?

Personally I'd like to see truck racing simulation. I don't know what
kind of truck series are in US if any, but the european series is fun
to watch. Big cars, more than enough power, road courses and speed
limiters to 160 km/h (100 mph) make the races close.
Drag racing might interesting, but it should be quite complicated on setup
or it could become boring soon (weather and track sufrace effects varying
between tracks/starts, etc).

TT Racer on the Sinclair Spectrum was the first - and it was
surprisingly good considering the platform it was on. It did have some
setup stuff, mainly to do with playing with your gear ratios. The
tilted horizon worked well but it needed a better frame-rate.
No Second Prize on the Amiga is not a very serious bike simulation,
but it is hell of a fun to play. *Very* smooth vector graphics and the
tilting horizon really adds to the feel. I keep moving my head
whenever I play it. :-)
I think Electronic Arts released a cycle-racing game soon after they
did Indy 500 (for the Amiga). The title "Red Zone" comes to mind but I
have no idea if this is even close to being the correct name. I never
got hold of it - most reviews said it was quite realistic and pretty
good - but very hard to learn.

Papyrus cannot release any info on their next project at this time. The
following info does come from reliable sources:
1. No plans to update IndyCar at this time.
2. No plans to add Miami to the IndyCar track collection.
3. Information on the next project will be available when the next new
project press release comes out. I'd imagine 2Q-95.
This certainly opens the discussion and speculation as to what could be next.
How about a Baja or motocross sim? If Microprose still has plans to do F1, I
don't think Papyrus should waste their time on that project. I'm sure MP's
sim will be terrific. If their recent flight sims are any indication, a new
Formula Grand Prix/World Circuit may just blow us away.
I look for Papyrus to try something entirely different. Heck, how about a
first person decathalon competition?
But my money is on a Speed boat sim.
Opinions?

To my knowledge, there has never been a decent bike sim, I think the
market is waiting for one.
Well no one has come up with a decent Rally sim yet. A couple of
efforts have hit the market but nothing of the quality of ICR or
F1GP.

I'd like to see a good 4wd/off road simulator (stadium races, BAJA, etc.) or
a good ol' redneckin' big tires & loud exhaust game (anyone ever see street rod
& street rod 2? something along that line but with the complexities of suspen-
sion & engine tuning, & better controls)
:
What, are you all nuts?
Let's get sideways! Sprint car simulation, anyone? On dirt?
I heard some remark that they wanted to put in the ability to
get upside-down into the NASCAR simulation, but didn't want to
delay the release any more. Well, I say go ahead and program
it in, get some dirt trackin' in (definitely need analogue
accelerator (pedals or pushing forward on a flight yoke)), and
have a blast! Use less sophisticated graphics, for a blindingly
fast frame rate (close quarters racing needs it), a panoramic view
(in lieu of hardware to allow head tilting) ...
Or how about an MTEG simulator, just the trucks, or other classes too?
Anyway, about a motorcycle sim/game with tilting view: Yes, Amiga
Red Zone, by Psygnosis, has this. It's very difficult, but fun.
The problem is with the other bikes; they don't behave right and
your sense of how close you are to them isn't there (rather like
F1GP, really).
(Not to mention you never wiggle under acceleration. It's a game
rather than a simulation (again, like F1GP).)

: since things like stagger, sway bar etc.. are have no meaning on bikes.
No, not really. On bike you have intricate suspension setups. You
can adjust front and rear ride height, f/r preload, f/r compression
damping, f/r rebound damping, f/r spring rates, etc. This would provide
some detail in the setups. Heck, be cruel and throw in carb jetting,
unless it's a GP game with fuel injected GP bikes.
It be the first motorcycle "sim" I think. I've only seen motorcycle
games.
: The thought of a Indycar/NASCAR type sim with a tilting horizon makes me
:*** my chops. As far as I know, nobody has ever attempted this. There
: are some cycle games (i.e Accolade Cyclemania) but no real simulators.
ICR version 2.0 would be incredible!!

Quite. The set up of a motorcycles suspension is very tricky...And if the
sim had different road surfaces, this would be the ultimate challenge. No
matter how sticky a front tyre is on the bike, with out the springs keeping
it on the road, you still have no grip.
Actually only Honda have experimented with EFI on 2-stroke GP 500's. This
is more of an issue in WSC with Ducati and now Honda using electronic fuel
and air mixers.
Accolade's Cycles is a bit dated now, but was a not too bad attempt when it
was released. It was the first sim I saw that had a non-flat road surface - ie
hills etc.
Maybe, but a 500GP/WSC sim would be NEW! There are quite a few car sims
that are very good, but the bike sim market has been neglected so long
now. Hell, I might just have to stop buying all great other sims until
Microprose or someone actually gives me what a really want...

Who is this General Failure anyway? And why is he reading drive A ?

That would be great! 'Course off-road would be real nice :) Mickey
Thompson Stadium racing :))

True, the setup of a motorcycle can be tricky but I was speaking in terms of
the ICR type of suspension changes (Shock stiffness controls all
parameters at once). If this was all that was on a bike sim, it would
be boring.
Hi all:
I guess what I'd like to see next is an even better Indy car sim. There
are many areas for improvement still. The AI can be improved even though
I wouldn't call it bad right now. I believe the handling or feel of the
cars can be improved as well. Feature like racing via the network can
make the game very very interesting. Imagine if instead of submitting
your race results for the ICR challange, you actually race head to head
with another 10 or 20 other real people at the same time ! This can
make competing in these events real challanging and real fun.
Waiting for ICR 2.0
Too early to wait for a VIRTUAL REALITY INDYCAR SIM !

Nah... I'd like to see a decent rallycross sim.

Here's something for all the mac lovers there. How about converting the
NASCAR and INDYcar games out there to be used on a Mac???
