I'm soooooo tired of the only bug i've found in Indycar (even 1.05) ... but it is just sooooo much a pain.... if you race new hampshire and go into the pits and accidently overshoot it and backup (across the line) you are put in a weird state... Mine said something like this 1) Emo 140.345 2) Pac --1 3) Paul -2.2 what the heck does --1 mean? i passed him and guess what... it didn't change! oh well...guess i got to learn to be REAL careful when going into the pits there! pac -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |Michael Packer 831 - 5978 | Radford University Computer Science | |"The world goes in circles, don't just sit there for the ride" |

This is your black flag penalty for overshooting your pit and using reverse in the pits! :-) Actually my biggest gripe about bugs in ICR is on Yellow Flag situations. When the yellow comes out every car on the track (on ovals) IMMEDIATELY drops its speed to 90+ mph. I'm sorry, but I can't always brake that fast, especially in corner. Also on restarts after yellows, the computer controlled cars seem to get the jump on me building up speed. I spent one whole day trying to finish 200 laps at Indy, only to have a computer car run straight up my tailpipe on every re-start. -- **************************** Michael E. --- First, this seems to happen when you over-shoot the pit, go to reverse, AND _RE-RECROSS_ the start/finish line. To avoid this nuiance just try not to re-cross the line and you shouldn't lose you lap or whatever. It's hard I realize as usually they pit you just past the line so it's hard to avoid breaking the line. Just be gentle I guess or burn-out and come in next trip. Squawk 'dem tires ba-BE! --- Good way to look at it :) I try as well to cover up bugs in programs by comparing it to something real as well ;-) --- This is annoying, but I can tollerate it. The two things with respect to Yellow flags that annoy me is: 1) When the yellow comes out, as you say everyone slows, thus not permitting you to race back to the stripe and un-lap yourself (if you were right behind the leader say) or better your position. You should have to complete _that_ lap regardless how much carnage is on the track. At least that's how it is in most forms of racing, not sure about Indy. 2) Yellow Flags in general bug the hell out of me-- to the point where I generally turn them off. They serve no purpose except for the human driver to take advantage of the AIs as far as I can tell. The AIs will NEVER pit under yellow unless they are bone-dry even if they only have two or three laps remaining in the tank, they'll still wait until then to pit regardless of green or yellow. A shame. In fact two nights ago the yellow came out (New Hamp.) with 144 laps left (prime pitting time, in fact I was on my way in when the yellow flew!). The only other car to take advantage of the situation was J.Villeneuve, the rest rode out the yellow and pitted two laps (giver' take some earlier some later) after the re-wave of the green rag. Retarded if you ask me; porked I say. Needless to say I built quite a lead out of that (and a shame too as I really had to struggle to even gain on the top 3 before that, after the pitting sessions were over there was only 1 other car on the same lap). Of course I eventually wiped out just over 1/2 way through the race.... typical. Btw, I am i the process of tweaking up the "TRACK.TXT" files to create a) more consistancy between all tracks <ie. set 100% and you should not have to change the strengths at any of the tracks... a challenge at each> and b) attempting to rectify the weird qualify vs. race speed thing. Ever notice that in order to get a challenge in the race one must set the strengths so as to have narry a hope of qualifying above LAST? Well, I'm tring to address these. I've got New Hamp done so far so it's quite good. At Opp.Strength 100 the field qualifies around 182 to 185 and the race speeds are around 175-180 depending on fuel load and stuff. This works well for me as I can qualify at around 182+ and run 177 or so ` during the race. I am gathering as many "race speeds" as I can from the net and the various series' that are going on (including the one I'm in - ICRS-II) and averaging everyone's "best" times that I can get to obtain a 'bench mark' for basing 100% strength on. If you are faster then the new "average" speeds just bump the strength up one or so and vice-versa. The good thing will be (hopefully) that that setting will be good at ALL circuits. Be nice huh? So keep submitting those times to the "Net-Best" chart guy here or if anyone is interested I have made a "fill in the blank" speed chart for all who wish to help out by presenting me with their best times. The more I get the better the average. :) [hell, here's the chart :) ]: +-------------------+-------------------+------------------+-----------------+ | | FASTEST SPEED | *FASTEST SPEED | *FASTEST SPEED | |TRACK NAME | or TIME (min.fuel)|or TIME (1/2 Tank)|or TIME (40 Gal.)| +-------------------+-------------------+------------------+-----------------+

What I want to know is, how come everytime I bump a car in Indycar Racing I at least blow a tire, but the computer controlled cars can actually over lap each other with no ill effects. I saw Scott Brayton with his***pit firmly over the back wing of Hiro (moving chicane) Matsushita. Wish I had a car like that.

That's strange; it seems like I ALWAYS get the jump on the computer cars on restarts! It's all just a matter of knowing where on the track the green flag is going to drop. However, after I get a good jump on them on the green, they all pass me into turn 1 of <INSERT TRACK NAME HERE>. Don't these guys' tires EVER get cold?? Yeah, I hate the darn "wonderbrakes" that the computer cars have when the yellow flag comes out; it has ruined quite a few good races for me. BTW, Chris, in IndyCars there is no "race for the stripe" on the yellow flag. Once the yellow is out, whatever position you're in (no matter where you are on the track) is the position you stay in until the caution period ends. Since we're on the subject of yellow flags, has anyone noticed any crashes occuring (that we're not the human driver's fault) if yellow flags are turned off? I haven't (this is with damage on too, BTW). +---------------------+--------------------------------------------+ | G. --- Ok, that's cool then, nothing wrong I guess. Another reason to push for a stock-car sim then! >8-) --- Yup, Warren, indeedy they do. Just you may not notice it. What I've found (at Long Beach, Austrailia, Portland and New Hampshire anyway for sure) is that they occur and you can tell by scrolling the "leader board" down to the bottom or exiting out periodically and looking at the leaderboard there. (I'm sure you do this anyway! This is for other people too, though :) ). Eventually you should see the exit-tees pile up due to malfunctioning parts or crashes. Then you can of course run the replay and see what happened. I've seen many. --- While on the subj. I find the AI-cars _ONLY_ crash at certain points on the various courses. (That I've noticed anyway) Long Beach the two popular spots are right at the stripe (can't understand why they lose it there for the life of me!!) or just before entering the backstretch they'll tag the barrier through the 'snake-y' part. Occasionally at a selected few other spots (at the end of the backstretch or upon entering the 1st turn) but these are few and far between. New Hampshire, they generally _always_ lose it inbetween T3 & 4 or T1 & T2...... BTW, Warren, recieve anything from ICRS lately??? I haven't except the Austrailia settings.... which ironically mentions we should have received a prior message??? I sent off to Tim to see what's up...... -- Christopher Goucher This be the end My opinions are MY opinions (so be gentle! :) )

Yup, it happens. It IS a sim and a game, it will have consistencies like that. It is also true at many tracks in real IndyCar that some spots are more prevalent to crashes than others. So in the sim, it gives you a sense of cautious anticipation if your at a trouble spot with an opponent, especially if you're there with someone KNOW to have trouble with that spot. Warren, Chris, you can direct your questions concerning the series, to me from now on, since I'll be HERE often. In fact, since it does relate to this group's topic, Results will be posted here for sure. I again apologize for the GREAT delay in mailing the Nazareth results to you. I've been going through a lot of system changes, part of which has finally brought me here. Hopefully, this won't be a problem again.
