Notable threadGerman-only GTR release and fan English translation

Buyers outside Germany who imported the German-only first release of GTR asked SimBin for an English language update. A fan translation by Skypat appeared within days; its forum thread was briefly removed as an illegal modification and then restored, and posters noted SimBin did not officially support modding because of ISI engine licensing. German buyers described themselves as beta testers given the bugs.

Those of us (outside of Germany) that have forked out the DM's for the German GTR should start pushing SimBin (or any other company involved in GTR) for a language upgrade to be made available when worldwide release is made. I think this would be a nice gesture to those of us helping them out by providing cash up front. Andi. -- Remove only one zero to reply
Good idea Andi, but I doubt it will happen. I too have ordered GTR from Germany, but I'm confident that the language can be changed using some files from the demo. Game.dic for instance, contains most of the menu text etc. Not sure about pit radio speech, but I'm sure someone can hack into it.

And now the thread is gone, from both RSC and GTR official forums. Something about not allowing illegal modifications made and/or distributed... :/ -- - Jussi Koukku -

I agree about world release all at once so I will wait when they release on english. > If game makers would learn to do a world release all at once, they > wouldn't have this problem. >
Excellent point. How soon they forget their own roots. Marc "Mark" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

It has something to do with licensing. Probably not so much about the FIA GT licence, but ISI engine licence. ISI is making a highly moddable game (rFactor) themselves, and I'd think they would like to keep GTR from competing with their own product. -- - Jussi Koukku -

I also have GTR preordered and tested it. Guys don't be so angry. The German language version is more or less a larger Beta-Test till everything works. The Version which was produced have so many bugs, but the developers are working very strong to patch everything. So I believe, when the english version is out, the cd production can run much better, because all the most problems are fixed already. Daniel

We Germans are the beta testers. AI is rather stupid, but driving online is ok.
