F1GP & ICR? like trying to compare apples and oranges

I've played ICR.. and F1GP... and.. it's like comparing an old atari game to a game in the arcade... there's no way F1GP comes anywhere near ICR in terms of fun, feel, look... everything! F1GP a mole on the face of auto sims! Don't get me wrong... i do hate f1gp! And i can't believe some ppl say it's better than ICR... do they like driving ROBOT cars, around almost flat plastic tracks? do they like the way the pit sucks them in, and how you have a bottomless fuel tank? just thought i'd let you know... :) damian -- -------->8-------->8-------->8-------->8-------->8-------->8-------->8---- -------->8-------->8-------->8-------->8-------->8-------->8-------->8----

You won't get 25 Hz repeat rate with full detail on with ICR ;-) (maybe on a DX4 ?!) |> there's no way F1GP comes anywhere near ICR in |> terms of fun, feel, look... everything! We just switch the steering help OFF !!! |> and how you have a bottomless fuel tank? ??? bottomless ??? NO! It is just as full as you need it. The car is definitely loosing weight during the race... Exactly like in F1 in 1991. Do not misunderstand me, I have ICR and F1GP on my HD. I like ICR for the ovals and F1GP for all other tracks... Herbert (243.050 mph at Michigan) --

Well, F1 cars DO carry all the fuel without needing pit stops, so THAT is realistic. AI cars in ICR won't pass you when you're at a dead stop, slow to 85mph on a straightaway at Michigan, New Hampshire, etc. Last time I checked, there are a good many hills on WC tracks, and they are where they are supposed to be. And speaking of tracks, does ICR have all 16 for it's circuit? No. Can you control the car well without a Thrustmaster wheel on a road course? No. Can you get statistics on previous races, etc? No. You can spend $250 for ICR, getting the game, 2 track disks, and a TM wheel to be able to control it properly - and still have STUPID AI to deal with, which Papyrus ISN'T going to fix, period - they have said so. Or spend $35 on WC, get a good editor (F1ED 2.0 for PC is great), modify the computer stats to make the game competitive (the AI being it's only real weakness) and be able to drive with your current joystick - and have one Hell of a good time racing an ENTIRE season. Oh, BTW, WC-2 is coming - it should have all the setups you have in ICR, better control, all the tracks, better graphics, etc. Have fun with ICR, and it's 15 frames a second fuzzy graphics. Just thought I'd let you know!

Realistic for the 1991 season which the game seemed to be modeled for. This depends alot on where you stop. When you stop on the track the cars WILL pass you eventually. You are right about ICR during a yellow. Actually they do now. Plus a car editor, apparently. Nope. No printouts like F1GP. AND THAT SUCKS!! There is noe reason not to do this. I really don't understand why they apparently refuse to consider this. As for why you cannot control the ICR cars? THat is difficult to tell with the info you provided. For all I know you are using the gameport from your sound card. Or worse, the gameport from the I/O card that came with your computer. If your calibrated numbers are not close to 150, I would expect problems. I am assuming you have a good joystick :-) Well I wouldn't fix the ICR IA either! The AI for WC seems perfect for a NASCAR game. Everytime you try to pass one of those computer butt-heads on a straight (like tamborillo) they hammer you. Happens all the time. Like a penalty for passing in the wrong part of the track. Right... BTW, F1GP doesn't have all the tracks either. I couldn't find South Africa from last year. Or the Pacific GP (in japan ) this year. And ICR h2h modem play blows away F1GP period! But, thanks for letting us know anyway.

I'm using a Gravis Eliminator Gamecard w/ Gravis joystick. I wouldn't say you can't control ICR, it's just too touchy. I hate the line magnet in WC sometimes, but it is (to me) the lesser of two evils compared to ICR. I have heard comments from many others that ICR just doesn't control right without the Thrustmaster. Don't know about Modem h2h on either, but WC DOES have all the tracks, for the 1991 season it is simulating. I'd like to see more (the current ones), but they should be in the new version. And the F1 drivers do get a bit aggressive, so I don't find the WC AI too unrealistic. One thing, everyone screams about "realism" in both these games. Well, unless you've been in a F1 or IndyCar and gone around these tracks, you can't really claim one way or the other. WC's physics model could be the more realistic - it isn't, I'm sure, but who knows? ICR fanatics remind me of Falcon 3.0 fanatics - screaming about it's complete realism. Well, I love F3 and played it to death, but it's flight model isn't completely realistic - period. It doesn't mean you can't enjoy the game, but it's a fact, yet some people refuse to admit it. The *main* problem for me is Papyrus's support of the product. They have basically said they will not address any of the AI, printing, etc, issues, all the while hyping the new tracks -$30 for Indy and $30 for the remaining 7. They admit that ICR's AI has glaring problems, but that it would take a complete rewrite to fix, and they will address this in the "new game". I will say, ICR is AWESOME for me driving around the track, by myself. A great _driving_ sim. But as a _racing_ sim, it leaves a lot to be desired. This is where WC "feels" better, IMHO - which I fully expect many to completely disagree with. To each his own. I do hope WC / ICR / WC2 competition starts more companies doing quality racing sims - the more competition, the better sims we'll have. K. Beard

Well, I have the thrustmaster FCS, WCS II and ACM game card. No Formula T1 steering wheel though. ICR is JUST as controlable as WC is. For me... Are your calibrated values 150? Another thing that may not be all that joystick related. ICR is very sensitive to the tire grip/temprature. You may be spinning out on cold tires... WOW!!! I was going to compare WC fanatics the the SVGA Air Warrior purists!! hahaha. Pretty funny. I too am a little upset about the lack of *PROPER* printouts or SAVE GAME options. As for AI??? I think it is better than WC, by a long shot. Proof for me, was when the back markers moved over for me as I lapped them. I guess we dissagree here.

I have no problem using my joystick to get around road courses. I have an old CH Mach II and am using the game port on my PAS card. One can get a complete printout of a race just completed. Drop down to DOS and issue the command: copy results.txt prn Anyway enough of this WC vs. ICR crap. Both games are 2 different attempts to simulate 2 different racing formulas. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. Let's just say that they are DIFFERENT and leave it at that! -- **************************** Michael E. Hehe Greg. Why argue with us. We are correct. Always have been, always will! :) --- Gavin "Visualize Whirled Peas!" -------------------------------+------------------------------------- -------------------------------+-------------------------------------

Humm. I'm using a crappy cheap Quickshot Warrior 5 on a Gravis Ultrasound (uncompensated - I can't be bothered..) with absoultely no problems whatsoever on ICR with the range from 3 to ~2000 :-) I find the control great on ICr (although I don't think I'm supposed to sling the brake balance 100% rear on longbeach & use it as a handbrake :-) Damn good fun though, but kills your laptime!) Also, I find the ICr control _much_ easier than F1gp - at a guess because of the added feedback/ better model, which lets you 'know' when the car is going to lose the back end or whatever... Personally, I liked WC _a_lot_ (even if it was too easy with steering help on & damned impossible with it off) until I got ICr - I haven't played it since.... Can't stand F3 though - gimme Red Baron anyday! Yup, I've had this too - It's really nice to come belting into an oval turn & see the car in front move over for you (unlike WC, where the backmarkers never even knew you were there). However, the 'spinning on the spot' under yellows does bug me ,as does the way that computer drivers get a yellow when they go off, but you don't. So I'll stick with ICr thanks! William
