I hope this is not a FAQ....but, is it possible to receive any
sound on a PC without a sound blaster, it seems to me a pretty poor
non-option if the latest from Papyrus cannot match the earlier version
(Indy 500) for at least some sound for those unfortunate few that do not
have the appropriate card... help?

If I remember correctly there is no PC speaker option. Considering it
costs about $1500+ for a machine capable of running this game at a
decent speed and you can get a Soundblaster for <$60 AND no serious
gamer would spend the above amount and not get a sound card I don't
find it too surprising. If they spent one day on PC Speaker sound it
probably wouldn't be made up in sales to people without soundcards.
Now I will admit that without sound a driving game of this nature is
going to be difficult, changing gears will be a nightmare, but if you're
gonna spend hours learning to play and you must have spent at least $40
on the game then a bit more for a soundcard that will enhance all of your
games can't be too much of an extra burden.
On a technical level, I think they used the Miles design drivers and I
don't know if these support PC Speaker or not. If not adding PC Speaker may
mean more work than supporting all the other sound cards combined.
